I went to the game with my 16 year old son, my brother in law, his 24 yr old son(both from N.O.) and my daughter's boyfriend from NY (a jets fan who wore black nevertheless and cheered for the saints). We took the subway with a sea of eagle's fans. The subway system there is much nicer than New York. Of our group I figured if anyone would get us into trouble it would be my nephew.

It was a true hi def day with bright sunshine and temperatures in the high sixties. There was a lot more tailgating going on than I thought there would be in the North. One thing that struck me was the almost total absence of saints fans. I am used to traveling to LSU away games where you see thousands of LSU fans, even in Seattle. I do not think Saints fans travel that well to games in the northeast. I saw a few in the airport on the way home, but only two at the game.

As I mentioned in an earlier thread, they have a great pre game routine there. The screen shows scenes from Rocky with Rocky music interspersed with big hits from eagle's games. Their mascot rappels in from the roof and the combination of the two winds thier fans up pretty good.

We got our first taste of the saltiness of their fans on the introduction of the saints. As the announcer introduced each player, the fans(and I mean the whole stadium) yelled sucks after their names were announced. It got louder as the introductions went on and loudest when Shockey was introduced. Shockey also got a healthy dose of boos.

Now even though we were wearing black, it might not have been obvious to all we were saints fans as there are a few Philly fans who wear black. That is until they start announicng the Eagles players. My nephew was so impressed with the eagles chanting "sucks" after each of our players got introduced he let out the same chant to follow the intorduction of the eagle's players:no: :D.

Then we had the flyover by the F15s (dont see that in the dome) and the national anthem was sung buy the little girl who won America's got talent. Veterans from all military services held up an American flag which covered the entire field. You can not help but be jealous those with an outdoor stadium on a day like Sunday.

Fortunately we made friends right off the bat with the guys behind us and we never had a problem. We had great seats right in the corner where Colston scored. We stood up to cheer and I could not spot another Saints fan in the whole stadium. I would have thought there would have been some section reserved for saints fans but if there was we never saw it.

I travel to many Saints away games but historically Philly is not a place fans from opposing teams travel to because of the reputation of the past (google Section 700 veterans stadium and you will see why). I disagree as we travel well as a fan base.

I kept waiting for the part where someone threw beer on you and you punched their lights out!!!!

I'm glad you had a good time! The intros used to be even more intense when Dawkins was still here....I heard from people on EMB say that the intros were boring due to his absence. It's nice to hear an opposing viewpoint.

The stories from the 700 level of the vet stadium are crazy...those people really did get into fights and throw beer on opposing fans. But that has changed at the Linc. The Eagles raised the prices for season tickets to the point where a lot of the riff-raff couldn't afford them. Those who could afford the tix were kicked out if they started trouble. I'm sure there are still issues, but nothing like at the vet.

LOL @ Shockey reaction...he was hated as a Giant, yet any philly fan would tell you they'd love to have him on our team. Glad to see he's better and able to produce for you. He has mad talent.

Yep, that's where we almost got in trouble many years ago.

Tailgating in the parking lot before the game, we made friends with the Eagles fans around us and they were all pretty cool. Everyone was drinking and partying openly and then security came up to our black and gold cars and "confiscated" all of our alcohol while those Eagles fans around us laughed and continued to get beer out of their ice chests right in front of security. Of course, we were ****** at the time but it's funny now and the Eagles fans around us shared their brew with us until the game started.

I've been to 3 saints games in Seattle over the years, each time i've always been very impressed with the number of Saints fans that turn out for the game. I think most of them are locals, transplanted from the south that turn out whenever the saints show up.

Dude, that just brought a tear to my eye! I can just picture them laughing while your beer got confiscated LOL. But you better not spread this story around too much....we have a rep to protect!

I heard the stadium was like a morgue after the half lol. At that point, all Saints fans were free from worry...the Eagles players were the targets instead.

Im surprised they didn't boo the soldiers and the little girl singing the Nation Anthem!

Give us a little credit. No one bad mouths the soldiers!

We were in section 106 row 11. Did you see any other saints fans around you? I looked around when we would score to see if any saints fans were cheering and didnt see anyone near us. I guess you would have been over our left shoulder and i dont remember looking back that way.

I dont go to enough away games to know whether saints fans travel well or not, but there sure were not many in Philly. I know we travel well to close venues like Atlanta. I am used to LSU away games where you see purple and gold everywhere going into the stadium. I was looking for a saints tailgate party and didnt see one anywhere.

Did you like the "sucks" thing they did during the saints intros? I thought it was pretty funny.

A bit off topic but..do people in Philadelphia know they have a REAL Heavyweight champion by the name of Joe Frazier? Ya know...the one that knocked down and gave Muhammad Ali fits? One of THE greatest boxers (talking about Frazier) of all times who is FROM Philly?

Sorry, but the Rocky love in Philly makes me sick. :covri: Rant over.
