but is it possible that Greg Williams is holding back as much is possible with Will Smith and Charles Grant so as to not give too much away to opposing teams for them to plan against us? I don't pretend to know alot about schemes, and game planning, and i can't take credit for this train of thought. But it might explain their play, or lack of it. maybe against some of the more aggressive teams he might unleash them? just a thought.

I personally don't think GW is deliberatly holding back Smith and Grant. But I do not think that GW has revealed all his schemes and tricks that he is known for.

I think that GW is holding some things back for divisional opponents since we really will not see them until after week 5 or 6.

Its not that he is holding back or anything, he just hasen't put the full load yet. Remember it still just game one.

Alot of what he does, isn't seen completely by someone who doesn't understand the diffrent types of defenses. One thing I love about greg williams is the fake cover 3 zone blitzing. It will look like he is bringing the house on a zone blitz, and as soon as they audible into a pass play, and start the play, the whole defense is in Pass coverage. It looks amazing, but still, I don't think we've seen all that he can do as a coordinator

I dont think he is holding anything back. Why would he? But the fact that yall have not been down any means he cannot employ some of the blitzes and other schemes simply because yall have not needed them yet.

It is possible that there is a reasonable, logical explanation for why our two top DE's aren't playing to their potential...

But with every game its getting less and less likely that they're going to improve drastically.

Grant isn't playing much except on run downs. The sooner people realize this, the sooner they'll realize why you aren't seeing much from him in passing situations.

thank you, this is what i was thinking. i am learning alot from you guys and seeing what it is you are talking about. Throughout the game i try to focus on 1 unit of each defense and offense. I hope Clark Kent is right in that our big leads don't quite allow him to unveil everything just yet. Nice problem to have.

As a new system, Id be willing to bet they havent installed the entire system yet. They would have given them what they could fit in the time alloted, and continue to install new things during the season. Also in game planning for teams they would likely come up with new wrinkles to take advantage of perceived weaknesses. So hopefully you will see constant change in the defense, with new stuff apppearing each week.

We open divisional play in Week 8 on Monday Night Football at home against the Falcons, followed by another home contest in Week 9 against the Panthers. We don't see the Buccaneers until our trip to Tampa in Week 11.

Then three out of our final four games are divisional matchups: at Atlanta in Week 14, hosting the Buccaneers in Week 16, and at Carolina to close the season in Week 17. The one non-divisional game in the final quarter of the season is Week 15, when we host the Cowboys on the NFL Network's Saturday Night Football.

I think smith and grant are holding smith and grant back. These two guys are getting paid a lot of money, and need to do a better job at getting pressure on the QB. It really changes the whole defense when your end are getting to QB or causing pressure.

This may not relate to the Ops subject, but since we're talking about defense, I have a theory of my own.

The whole football world is bragging on our offense with good reason. Over 40 points in two games is fantastic. I don't have the stats but....how many drives has our offense had per game compared to last year. My thinking is that maybe our defense is getting the ball back in our offences hands a lot more, therefore resulting in more opportunities to score.

Could this be true?

S. Spagnulo was on Sirius today and said he had 40% of his defense installed right now and would probably only be up to 70% by the end of the season. This leads me to believe that GW probably won't have all his stuff in until next year. I also believe that he hasn't used anywhere near all his blitzes. In fact, I think he has only blitzed a handful of times this year because they don't need to use it and why give up video footage of what you are going to do? Rex Ryan said today on the radio that he used old footage that he knew Brady was going to watch and then made sure to call blitzes that he never had before.

So yes, these guys have a ton of gameplanning and strategerizing to do.

Oh, and Will Smith doesn't look completely terrible and Grant doesn't play on 3rd downs, McCray does. And none of them can get to the QB. Right now if we had to rush 4, it should be Vilma, Hargrove, Ellis, and Harper. I'm being sarcastic. I think.
