Anybody here work for Directv or have experience with cancellation?

I've had it since August 2006, same original receivers, never been upgraded or replaced. I have always maintained more than the basic programming. I actually went up one level on the package and added Starz. I did use Movers Connection a couple of months ago, but nowhere in the terms and conditions does it say anything about affecting the commitment period.

I am trying to make sure that I am free of my original commitment and was hoping someone could help so that I don't have to get on the phone (I hate calling). Thanks.

two year commitment. It sounds like you should be fine. The new dish may have cost you though.

No new dish was installed. There was a Directv dish already in place and I just brought my receivers along.

Update:

Just called and spoke with a CSR. Her words, "I'm showing that you are no longer under commitment with us."

Very nice...Dish Network and local channels, here I come.

I also just switched to Dish.

I've had DTV for 6 years. I haven't renewed a contract and they actually got really good with customer service over that period until the economy got bad again.

I cancelled the Sunday Ticket back in July but still was charged for it. I called and cancelled it again in August and was supposed to get a credit back. Then I get my bill in again in September and was charged a third time for a total of $150. This time I called and tried to cancel but they said I couldn't cancel since the season had already started without losing the $150 I put in.

So then I called back to cancel directv all together. The person offered free HBO, Showtime and Stars for 3 months and offered to knock $15 a month off of my bill for 6 months but refused to refund the $150 I put in. I don't want HBO, Showtime or Stars and $15 x 6 < $150. Plus I cancelled twice previous to the season so they really just ****** me off.

After I cancelled the service they informed me they still couldn't refund the $150 for the Sunday Ticket, not even at a pro-rated cost so they could try to keep me as a customer but instead just lost me as a customer for life.

I opted to lease the equipment from Dish and pay a one time $99 fee just to not have a contract because these companies are so damn shady.

The Red Zone channel is the single biggest reason I bought the ticket. That channel is so worth $200 a year but now that the NFL network is offering it for $1.99 I don't need directv. Plus Directv is pretty much the only major cable/satellite company that doesn't offer The Red Zone channel because they want people to buy the Sunday ticket to get it.

With Dish I get all my locals in HD including the Saints games which I couldn't get in HD on my off air antenna. Plus I get several other Fox channels to watch other games in HD. I also get the red zone channel and NFL network. On top of it all I am paying about $15 less a month for the same channels on Directv.

And any other TV, phone provider can burn to the ground and the world would be a better place. These companies think that is better to pay our government to get laws passed in order to gain market share instead of trying to get customers by providing a better service and our elected officials don't mind taking their money to oblige.
