Looks like State finally grew a pair and decided to play us ol' Eagles again. Hotty Toddy, time to man up.

As an LSU fan upset with the scheduling of in state patsies I do not think Ole Miss should sign on to play you. Miss St has hit a low point where they could regularly find themselves in real recruiting battles with So Miss because of their recent fall from respectable status... if things continue Southern Miss may very well become the second most desirable in state school to local recruits, if that happens we can just go ahead and pencil Miss St in for 6th every year in the SEC West. So they find themselves in the unenviable position of having to prove that they are the better school and the better destination to in state recruits.

Ole Miss on the other hand is currently the top dog in their state. They would gain nothing from playing schools that are already considered below them and could easily loose ground just from playing a close game to an in state opponent, so really there is nothing for them to gain.

I think State's decision to play USM is economic more-so then anything else. The price on no-return game or even 2-for-1 games for mid-conference (like C-USA) is getting pretty high. It's not very cost effective. MSU had to give South Alabama, who doesnt even have a team yet, a 2-for-1 deal.

USM will draw a crowd, and MSU isn't selling out their stadium right now, certainly not to non-conference games, and is therefore the most cost effective 1-for-1 non-conference opponent MSU can sign up and realistically expect to beat. To draw better then USM they'd have to sign up a decent BCS conference school (like Georgia Tech). And even then I bet USM outdraws Georgia Tech in Starkville.

None of this is an issue for Ole Miss. We sold out our game against Southeast Louisiana. We have no reason to play USM, and even if we did, we wouldn't, for the same reason we just dropped Memphis for Tulane.

We don't like them

I think State can and should beat USM, but no way that's a guarantee.

Otherwise, I agree.

Everything you typed makes sense to me except this quote. When was State respectable?
Yeah, you got bragging rights this year. But don't get too cocky. Last year was the infamous baseball game between our teams (3-2). And in 2007 it was a 19-14 State win.

We won't talk about the years preceding that though. :covri:

I suppose this is tongue in cheek. The best rivalries are among schools who do not like each other.

These decisions often relate to recruiting and money. The smaller(or weaker) school's program becomes more legitimate playing the bigger school. The bigger(or more prestigious) in state school have little to gain in the match up they are supposed to win.

LSU dropped Tulane many years back for this reason. Years ago Tulane would get a few blue chip kids LSU was recruiting. When Tulane would pull the once in a while upset, their in state recruiting got a boost. Tulane was added back to the schedule recently for a few games partly because they are not percieved as a recruiting threat to LSU anymore, and partly because the likelihood of Tulane beating LSU is very slim.

USM does compete with Ole Miss and Miss State for recruits. Ole Miss is the most prestigious of the three schools nationally and has no interest in legitimizing USM by playing them. On top of that, USM can field some very competitive teams. it would be a no win game for Ole Miss. If they beat USM, they were supposed to. If they lose, they get killed by the polls and they give USM in state recruiting impetus.

How bout when we went to Atl in 98 with the number one defense in the nation and should have won? :idunno:

Ok, granted it was 11 years ago, but when was the last time Ole Miss was there? Not tryin to start any crap, just sayin.

Shouldnt be a problem at all as much improvement as ive seen this year, but still have a long way to go.. I say this as a former 2 year student at USM but i stay loyal to my team.

State would not beat this USM team. Maybe in 2014 when the series renews itself they might.

Unfortunately, i could care less about this. I'm a huge USM fan, and I've put Ole Miss and MSU behind me and I would rather us move on.

Ole Miss and USM absolutely hate each other, so that series won't happen in my lifetime lol.

Are you psychic?? If so, tell me who will win the Atl vs NE game this weekend.

Did you predict the Saints to win this weekend?

Same goes for me, I would pick USM to win and I would be pretty damn sure of my pick. We could lose to KU by 20 Saturday and I still wouldn't change my pick.

Don't get defensive because I think USM is better then State. I'm pretty sure they've been better for 7+ years now, and we've been pretty mediocre.

With that said, I have no idea what direction your program will take you with Mullen, but I'm sure the only way you have left is up.

Touche.. No defense on my end.. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.. But put USM in the SEC and see what happens.. Just sayin.. We're headed up for sure.. Just wait a year or two.
