Duncan: Jammal Brown expected to return in Week 8 (ATL) or Week 9 (CAR) (1 Viewer)

Shall we wait for week 6 or 7 to start the "Does Brown take his starting spot back from Bushrod" debate threads or should we just do that now

very interested to see what happens when he's ready if Bushrod continues to play at a high level

about time we got some false starts.....

i keed JB

I would say we wont be having a discussion about Nesbit losing his job to Jamal Brown because Nesbit doesnt start at LT, hes a backup G/C. I think you mean Bushrod and yes he will get his spot back.

I'm not so sure...People are all assuming that it's just a given, and if he were coming back by week 6 against the Giants, then yes, it would be.

But by the time Brown comes back, Bushrod will have faced such defenses as the Jets, Giants and Dolphins...by this time we will know how far he has progressed and how legit he is as a starting LT in this league...if Brees has remained as virtually untouched as he has to this point, and Bushrod doesn't have to constantly receive help...then I'm not so sure the Brown just waltzes in and gets his spot back...

I'm not the coaching staff, and I'm not discrediting what kind of career Brown has had for this organization, I'm just saying that Bushrod is younger, hasn't had any injury problems, and isn't due for a big contract upgrade for another couple of years...

It will be interesting to see what happens...thats for sure

I dont know what you're talking about :covri:

PS Jammal

Whether we like it or not, a veteran that has the skins on the wall like Brown, won't lose his startign spot to Bushrod, no matter how good Bushrod plays. What has a realistic chance of happening if Bushrod plays well in Brown's absense is, we let Brown leave in the Offseason and Bushrod replaces him next year.

There's no way a player of Brown's ability rides the pine.

Honestly, I don't think Bushrod has played at a "high level." If you go back and review the Lions tape, Bushrod is beaten frequently in pass protection. Brees does a marvelous job of moving in the pocket to avoid sacks in that game. If not for his mobility, he would have been sacked--by my count--at least three times by Bushrod's man. Of course, in the Eagles game (I haven't looked a replay), Bushrod gave up a sack early in the first quarter. The Saints then gave him help (a TE or RB) for the rest of the day.

IMO, if Jammal Brown is healthy, Bushrod easily goes back to the bench.

All of that being said, I think Bushrod has played decently since being placed into the lineup. This is great experience for him, and he should be even better by week 8.

:plus-un2:

keep in mind we're talking about an ALL-PRO left tackle who's injured here.
Bushrod hasn't been bad, but when Cole leveled Brees last Sunday i'm sure all of you were cursing Bushrod for getting beat. remember that Shockey had 3 catches before that sack, then after they moved a TE to that side to help Bushrod he didn't have any.

Not suggesting this is you Bee Rad, but I think a lot of people don't understand the Saints pass blocking scheme. They ask their tackles to take the DE's up the field past the QB. Sometimes this creates the illusion like Brees is getting pressured when in reality, he isn't. They aren't asking Bushrod and Stinch to stone the DE's and keep them at the line, they want as many DLmen to flow behind Brees opening up the passing lanes for him. Of course this only works if the middle of your OL can maintain the LOS, which ours do very well.

Bushrod is getting beat too many times for my comfort and sanity, can't wait to get JB back.
