This is an add for a Pakistani Airline that ran in Le Point 30 years ago. The imagery blew me away.

Looks like they could have used the service of KOS to make that ad 30 years ago. That is a horrible fake shadow.

Is it possible that this image is what gave the 9/11 terrorists their idea?

Odd that a Pakistani airline is advertising a route from Paris to New York. I don't think the ad would be in French if it was run in Pakistan.

I was curious about the authenticity of the ad because I didn't think that PIA flew B747, but they list it in their fleet. In Jan 2008, someone tore the pic out of a magazine from 1979 and posted it on the internet. It appeared in the March 19th, 1979 issue of Le Point (hence the French text). Interesting...

Possible that they had Pakistan to France to US route and their ad was to entice French flyers going to the US. :idunno:

They leased their first 747 in 1976 and purchased their first in 1978.

Amazing how long the 747 have been flying.

PanAm was the first to order them in the mid 60's. I think the B747 entered commercial service in 1970. PIA didn't get them until 1974 if you trust this website. The DC9 has about five years on the B747 and have flown far more cycles. They're real workhorses. I have had the pleasure of working with them. It's a sight to see so much steel and aluminum run with cables, pulleys and hydraulic fluid leaking everywhere lift so effortlessly in the air. None of that sissy Airbus junk for the guys who command these vessels. I enjoyed watching the L1011's, DC-10's and B727's for the same reason, but their take-offs just screamed raw power.

IIRC, PIA was the first airline to jump on the B777. They're actually a fairly reputable carrier.

The only time I was fortunate to witness a 747 flying was at the beach in Boston years ago. It came in for a landing right over us and I stood there in awe watching this huge slow lumbering thing fly.

At the Honolulu International Airport the concourses have an outside open-air bridge you walk to get to your gate. A lot of time the first gate has a 747, and its always pretty cool being right up next to that big of a plane, maybe 100' away.

Best seat in the house!
