I just got through looking at the Saints-Eagles game again. Grant is huge. He's got to be pushing 300. With that thought in mind, would he not be better suited to play tackle? With Clancy out for two more weeks possibly, rotate Grant at tackle along side Ellis and Remi A. and rotate Hargrove with McClary and Charleston.

Just a thought. Grant's not doing much at end since he ran down the receiver in pre-season. Maybe he can be a more efficient run stopper. He has a wide enough body for it.

Geaux Saints!!!

well ..........

cut him ... cut smith ... and we will be fine! with less than 20 mi in cap .. I think we will be fine, dont u think?

No, don't cut them. After watching the game again, Smith is being more disruptive then he is getting credit for. His stat's don't show it, but he is getting pressure on the QB causing rushed passes and helping on run support.

Grant for some reason, just seems either lost or out of shape.

You could try him out a DT in passing situations ( which yall should have plenty of ). We are using Chauncey Davis at DT in some formations.

You are exactly right about Smith. I guess I didn't realize how disruptive he was until I re-watched the games. I have a feeling, on the other hand, Grant his having trouble because of his hamstring. I didn't even realize he was injured until earlier this week.

I pulled my right hamstring 2 months ago and it is not even close to fully healed. So who knows how long it could be.

Grant has appeared to "lose it" because he's not playing on passing downs.

He's starting on running downs and we are allowing 2.9 yards a carry.

tired of hearing the injury excuses with these 2

i'm going to go out on a 'limb' and say one of these guys won't be a Saint next year

A couple years ago I would've rolled my eyes at this thread. But it's actually a logical question here in 2009.

The answer, IMO is that we're already pretty solid at the 3-tech spot. If you're giving snaps to Grant at 3-tech that means you're taking away snaps from Ellis and Hargrove.

Which would be dumb with the way Hargrove is playing 3-tech.

Grant is being used the right way. Putting him in on running downs is paying dividends so far in that area of the game.

Yeah, he'll probably be cut in the offseason. Until then use him to his strengths and that is what Williams is doing.

I was just thinking of a rotation situation. It's kind of a good situation right now, unless someone else along the line goes down.

If either Ellis or Hargrove were to suffer an injury I think that would be something worth consideration. But at this point, I think these two guys can hold down the job and keep one another adequately fresh.

grant's hurt again (hami). we shouldn't play him at tackle, because we actually want push up the middle. ideally we'd just rest him till he heals. but that's not happening. he was a best in pre-season. its a bummer.

It goes without saying that for the amount of dough we're giving Grant you'd expect more than just a 2-down run-stuffing DE. Something's definitely gotta give next offseason.

Have you guys ever watched Grant play? No way he could be effective at DT, he doesn't play low enough. It's not because you're big that you can play DT, the technique is too different. Grant is what he is, a run stuffing DE and he's a good one. Of course he's overpayed for this but I don't blame him, he never was a dominant DE and the FO shouldn't have payed him that much.
I doubt we cut him next year though, we probably try to restructure his contract befor.
