This is not a joke: Saints have top 10 defense
September 28, 2009 10:10 AM
Posted by ESPN.com’s Pat Yasinskas

Even after a day where they didn’t exactly light it up against Buffalo, the Saints still have the league’s top-rated offense.

They’re No. 2 in the running game and sixth in the passing game. Perhaps more significantly, the Saints have a top 10 defense. Seriously. According to the rankings the NFL sent out this morning, New Orleans ranks No. 10 in overall defense. The Saints are fifth against the run and tied for 22nd against the pass.

The Saints are the only NFC South team with units even close to the top 10 in offense or defense.

Honestly, our D would probably be higher, but they are handicapped because our offense scores so quickly. They are on the field a lot. Given the circumstances they are playing very well, but I would like to see how we stack up per time on the field...I would bet we would be even higher...
I don't really care about the rankings as long as we are winning. Yesterday's win was because of D... aside from the fake FG they shut Buffalo down and they had been a good offense. The D is playing great because they are maximizing the personnel. Props to Greg Williams...

Plus, the Bills had ZERO Red Zone snaps the entire game. That was impressive.

It was like the Saints/Giants game in '06 in the Meadowlands. The giants had ZERO snaps on the Saints' side of the 50 that whole game.

The one caveat that everyone always said about the Saints the last two years was "if they had a defense to go along with that offense..." Well, we now do. Be AFRAID NFL.... Be very AFRAID.

If it's not a joke, then how come I'm laughing manically?

HAHAHAH oh man me too, and its soooooooooooo good!

I have to be honest, i kept waiting for our D to fail, as it would in the past, and it didn't happen! That was the proudest i've been of our D in a long long long time!!! :D

Watch NFL Live today! just tweeted:

RT @wingoz - Nfl live meeting. Saints scary good...manning epitome of mvp..and the surprising defense in denver. Hogie and differ..

We should all be laughing maniacally. Those blitzes just kept coming. The coverage kept limiting them for short gains. Gregg unleashed a fury of unrelenting pain at the Bills.

If you recall....He seems a little more timid vs. Rookie QBs and allows them extra time to make mistakes for picks. I'm interested to see how he attacks Sanchez...whether he brings it or plays more thick zones.

Unfortunately, I will probably be too drunk to seriously diagnose the scheme while in the dome.

True, true...I didn't even think of that. Yeah, the D is no doubt impressive this year. The philosophy to me seems to be put pressure and if they get past it thats fine, but we make the tackle. The pressure will give up a few 15-20 yard plays, but it will also give us a turnover or two a game. With that mindset and our offense putting up points we can take those risks and it is paying off thus far this season.

LMAO @ your last sentence. But I agree, he kept the pressure coming, kept blitzes coming from different sides of the field by different players, we had 4 sacks and a 1 int...I dont see us changing vs the Jets, this is what we do, we pressure the opposing teams QB..just like the Jets wont change for us, i'm sure he will mix up some coverages...this should be a very good game.
