It seemed like we blitzed every play. It seemed relentless. I'd love to know if anyone looked that up. If this was already posted somewhere, my apologies. Just trying to bask in our new defensive awesomeness.

I didn't think that we blitzed that much at all. In fact, I think that for the most part the pressure came from the front four.

We did blitz a good bit, but I don't think as much as it seemed. It's amazing what pressure from Grant and Smith will do isn't it?

Gregg Williams claimed we blitzed a player from the secondary 26 times (!!) He says that was a new NFL record.

I think we brought four on most plays. However, we were almost never in a normal 4-3 (only playing with 3 down lineman for the majority of the game), and we brought guys from all over. We brought a lot of defensive backs, especially Harper and Greer out of the 3-3-5. Obviously, when we had Bobby McCray as an elephant linebacker, he rushed nearly every time.

:plus-un2: Look for the soundbite that St.Chadwick posted of SP and GW, he also talks a lot about our corner blitzes and the pressure from big Sed.

FYI

The Saints blitzed at least one extra defender on 37 downs. They sent defensive backs on 21 downs. Their favorite blitz was a package that sent safety Roman Harper and the nickel back from the slot, most often Randall Gay, from the quarterback's back side. They sent this tandem at the QB 12 times. They also employed a cornerback fire, sending both cornerbacks into the backfield six times. They also sent outside linebackers Scott Shanle and Scott Fujita on blitzes eight times. They blitzed three linebackers on three snaps.

not as much as sanchez is gonna get it i wager.

we're definitely gonna have the same game plan for sanchez. we're gonna make the rook try to win the game for them cuz we are going to shut that run game down.

The Bills were credited with running 61 plays on offense (not including punts I assume) so 37 blitz's by the secondary is a shade over half of the plays that the Bills ran. Much more than I realized.

Actually, it's 60%... That's significant, and since it was so effective, I think we'll see a repeat performance in the Dome against the rookie Sunday.

i don't know that we're going to blitz as much this week. i hope i'm wrong because its so much fun to watch. and how much of a lead we have will also dictate D scheme, but i'm thinking we might revert back to the way we played Detroit.

Then again, he might just blitz for fun to show Rex whatsup.

I love the blitz!! There are only a handful of quarterbacks in the NFL who can beat the blitz consistently. You MUST make the qb PROVE that he can handle your blitz ... several times. Then, you back off ... but just for a few plays. :)

We blitzed a lot out of the 3-4.

I've gotta admit, I didn't expect us to utitlize it much and we have.

Yeah, 60% is a lot and I think it was dictated because of Edwards. Leaving single coverage out there to a better QB can get us beat on big plays. It was roughly 10 minutes left in the 4th when T.O. got loose but Edwards overthrew him. If the throw hits him in stride, we're down 14-10 and playing catchup with less than a quarter and the whole complexion of the game changes.

I think the blitz will be used judiciously in the future depending on the situation. With Sanchez and only 3 games under his belt, I would expect to see quite a bit of pressure this week.
