Reality Check: Saints

Other 3-0 teams: Giants | Vikings | Saints | Jets | Ravens | Colts | Broncos

Are the Saints for real? The NFL Blog Network breaks down each of the seven teams that started the season 3-0.

What they’ve accomplished: The 3-0 start is probably better than any realistic expectation in the preseason. The Saints were supposed to be without starting defensive ends Will Smith and Charles Grant for the first four games, but the NFL decided on the eve of the season to at least postpone their suspensions. Although Smith and Grant have been painted as underachievers in the past, they’re playing well as part of a rebuilt New Orleans defense. That’s been a key in the fast start as the Saints have had road wins against Buffalo and Philadelphia. The defense has gotten better each game and the Buffalo win showed the Saints don’t always need to rely on their offense. There also has been a little luck involved with the Saints facing Matthew Stafford and Kevin Kolb in their first career starts. But this team is in line for a little luck after going through a bunch of injuries and a brutal schedule that featured an international game last year.

For those that say that Pat doesn't cover the Saints fairly, where are you? He's been nothing but positive about us thus far this year.

Another good write up, Sunday can't come quick enough!

In a year that Carolina and Tampa Bay are 0-3, what else does he have to talk about? Especially after last week when we were the only team in the NFCS to win. If Carolina and/or Tampa Bay were atleast 2-1, Pat wouldn't be talking us up as much as he is now.

While I have NO way to prove this, I suspect you are right. I could be wrong, but I just think he would rather write about us than the Falcons.

The best comment I can make about your assertation is: disingenuous.

Pat has been fairly static in his assessment of this team. It's been one that describes the Saints as bona fide contenders.

This was an interesting take given by an Ravens fan in the comments on this article

SAINTS/Falcons ..... ... I've been an NFL fan for a long time, I grew up as a kid in Baltimore with Johnny Unitas and the Colts, we hated the Rams and Roman Gabriell but both were VERY good winning teams, think about it, the Bears/Packers, the Giants/Dallas, the Steelers/Ravens.... These were and are GREAT rivalries! I really do see SAINTS/FALCONS in that Conversation in the years to come... Go ahead and laugh now kids, but it would make both teams better year after year, as they will have to do everything it takes to stay ahead of the other, with the rest of the league paying the price !!!! Just some Blue-sky football fun talk. But you just watch !!!

Good article by Pat. He's definitely jumped on the bandwagon as of late.
