Dude's dead and his stories are still bloating out of control...

Haha, I'm so glad I never read this series, but I have lots of friends who have. They all said and say the same things, the most prophetic of which were, "This ******* is gonna die before he finishes this series."

Books 7-10 should have been Book 7.

Up until then, the plot had been rolling along fairly well.

Yeah... check out Brian Sanderson's blog, and you can see his justification for turning the final book into 3 books.

Thing is, Sanderson is right. Jordan had let the series grow to such ridiculous proportions that it's going to take three books just to tie up all the loose ends.

I stopped reading these around book 7 or 8. There were just too many characters to keep track of, the story was so bloated, and I got to a point where I just didn't know or care what was going on.

After that, I started reading George RR Martin's series, but he's been working on his latest book for 5 years or so. I check his website on occasion and it seems he's more interested in playing with toy knight dioramas then finishing his books :idunno:

"Robert Jordan gets paid by the word." If you have the time, read the customer reviews for Crossroads of Twilight on Amazon. There's some real creative stuff. I think the book was actually over 1000 pages about one day in the life of the characters. Here's the average rating...

IIRC, this story is commonly known as Elaine Takes A Bath.

I have no idea what book I quit on. 7 or 8, I think. It was a good decade ago

Im still waiting for George RR Martin to finish A dance of dragons, but he will die before he finishes his beloved Saga.
He has angered a lot of fans.

Have you tried Stephen Erickson's books? Malazan Book of the Fallen series is pretty great too. Lots of info but great. And he comes out with his books in a timely fashion.

Jeez ...i'm still trying to finish Green Eggs and Ham.

I've stuck this series out, and reread it about a year and a half ago in preparation for the final book. Hopefully the final 3 books come out rapid fire, like 2 years for all 3 to hit shelves

I've finished all of them with the exception of the final three. You're right about Jordan getting too expansive with his characters. I had to backtrack numerous times to remember who somebody was.

Ugh, I am dying for that man to finish those books! I still keep an eye on his web site (georgerrmartin.com) to see if there are updates, and he is still writing away, but no real news on the release of the next book yet. However, fans of his can (hopefully!) get a fix soon: HBO is turning the books into a series a la "Rome!"

Robert Jordan was never to my tastes; read the first book and he was so repetitive that I could barely plow through even that one. If I had to read about Nynaeve pulling at her braid one more time, I was going to pull my own braid right off!
