Don't bash me because this is about Reggie Bush. I am curious, if we did not pick Bush who would have been the choice? This is assuming we could not trade down.

I believe Bush was a good choice. It brought instant media attention to the Saints and the city after Katrina. He has done an excellent job for the city. I still support Reggie because if anyone dislikes the way things are going with him on the field is Reggie himself. I will never turn against Reggie because he is a Saint and the man has a work ethic that unfortunately not every player has. He is his own worst critic.

I just do not see any other player worthy of the 2nd pick besides Bush in the 2006 draft. Bush gave the Saints what they were lacking and that is someone that would have the Saints being talked about on SportsTv.

Thank you. As always I enjoy reading the threads with everyones knowledge.

No one who likes to point our Reggies faults is going to answer that, because the only player better than him taken in the top ten was Mario Williams, and he wasnt even available. This has been pointed out several times in the 'other' Reggie thread and none of them have responded.

Well let's take a look:

Mike D. and Mel Kiper had us taken D'Brickashaw Ferguson until the day before the draft. Others said A.J. Hawk.

And prior to the Drew Brees deal both said Matt Leinart

Haloti Ngata

Hindsight is 20/20.

But can you imagine the implosion if we had taken Ngata over Bush with #2 overall?? No one would bash it today, but man...

For this to be realistic you need to isolate the choices to the top 6. Let's assume any of those 6 could of went at any of the top 6 spots. Mario Williams is obviously gone at pick 2. So who do you take?

In that case the choices aren't very good ones. It just wasn't a good draft at all at the top of the 1st that year.

I was deployed during that draft. I wanted the Saints to draft AJ Hawk or trade down.

my choices besides bush were:

1) huff
2)hawk
3)ngata
4)trade down jennings (Seattle corner)

We were were going to take Hawk,

I think the Jets offered their 2 ones but we wanted more so no deal, but their are conflicting stories on whether we had such an offer.

I wanted Hawk and Mangold (felt like hawk was going to be a beast)

Hindsight I would have liked Ngata, and Jones Drew

I wanted AJ Hawk to. But seeing him play in Green Bay makes me glad we didnt pick him.

Man... There's a LOT of.... Well, "not good", in there.

There is just no way you pass up Reggie Bush at #2. 31 out of 31 teams would have taken Bush with the #2 overall pick.

Even using hindsight, Bush has arguably been the most successful in the top 10 (not including Mario Williams, of course).

Shh.... you might upset someone.
