So with Greer and Porter cementing themselves as starters, what will the long term plans be for Jenkins? I know we didn't spend a top 15 pick and 12 million dollars guaranteed for a nickel corner. I think the coaching staff should start grooming him to play safety when Sharper decides to hang them up. I think he's fast and physical enough to play that position. I like what I've seen from him so far on special teams but it will be tough for him to get on the field on defense the way porter, greer, and gay are playing right now.

What do you guys think?

Usama Young is already being groomed to make that switch. We need three good corners. This is a passing league now and having three good corners is going to make us extremely good for years to come.

I really like what I saw as well and I do think he can be a good FS in a few years but right now, I actualy think he might take over Porter spot before the end of the season....and I really like Porter.

I think he has plenty of time to grow into GW's schemes before moving to safety.

i don't see jenkins starting anytime soon with porter and greer playing the way they are, and i see us starting Usama to FS, so i'm guessing he'll replace Gay in the nickle. But i got to say porter and greer are the most underrated CBs in the leauge. Both run have top-end speed and they don't get enough credit for their physical play.

Two words: Mike McKenzie

What happened to our pass coverage when McKenzie got hurt? How well did the backups play?

I'm rather comfortable having some quality depth a Cornerback. I say we keep Jenkins right where he is, let him mature, and count upon the likelihood that we'll need him to step in someday.

But doesn't all this say something special about Tracy Porter, seeing as how he was a 2nd round pick?

I think the OP is right on. Unforunately, I am not very optimistic about Usama Young ever playing a meaningful down for the black and gold. Jenkins on the other hand has tons of athletic ability and has made great contributions on ST. I am sure he has already worked at both positions but we need as many stud CB's as we can have. He should be spending some time with Sharper now to get ready because Greer and Porter should be our CB's for the next 5-6 years minimum.

Moreover, with the way they are protecting the QB from hits, you couldn't be more right!

Greer has been oustanding and is clearly our number 1 but to me, the idea of having Jenkins on the other side of the field (when he is ready) is interesting. The impact he could have on the strong side on running plays could be huge and if he has a knack for stripping balls on return he can do it in the run game too. But that could work only if his coverage is up to par. And even if he isn't quite there yet, you can always have Porter on passing down with Jenkins sliding inside.

I love we're having this argument! Gay could start IMO for most teams, so having him at nickel is great. And MJ has a nose for the ball, has the talent to play CB or Safety as well. I unfortunately think he'll make the switch to FS to get more playing time, but time will tell.
