I think most of us were afraid what our LBs would play like before the season. Images of Sedrick Hodge, James Allen, Colby Bockwoldt, Terrence Melton, and Alfred Fincher scared many of us and kept us up late. (I know Hodge wasn't in camp, but I still have nightmares)

But, how do you grade our LBs so far?

Personally, I think Shanle and Fujita are have pro bowl type years. They are active and make a lot of plays. They both excite me for the future. I think Simeneau is good too. I think this group has really made a huge difference this year. Everyone wants to talk about offense, but these three and Hollis Thomas are huge reasons why we are 6 and 2.

How do our LBs compare to the rest of the league? Are they top-10?

I say they will be but aren't quite there yet. By the end of the year, they will be truly special.

What do you think?

Our Lb's are not even close to top 10 in the NFL. I don't think you can have a top 10 LB group without a true MLB. Now if we added a legit NFL MLB then yeah we are easily in the top ten. For now I would say we are in the low 20's. You may think that looks bad but before this season started we were not only the dead last in the NFL but we held were leagues worse than the next team.

I'd say our lb core as a whole is better than the low 20s... more like the middle of the pack... somewhere between 16-19...

Next year when they get a true starting caliber MLBer they will be top 10. Right now I will say they are probably top 1/2 of the NFL (thats a huge statement from a year ago). I am very pleased with the play of Shanle and Fujita. I think they are a very good outside LBer group and will only improve. Simoneau is steady, nothing to brag about, but then again he won't do anything to get you in trouble. He is better suited as a backup, however he has done a decent job filling the starting role (even if the stats don't say it).

This goes back to the age old addage of the D line is the most important positions on defense, specifically the DTs. Now that we have a big guy in Hollis that takes up more than one blocker it frees up our LBs to make plays. It's a whole lot easier to make a tackle when you don't have a guard blocking you.

I think our Lbs are doing an excellent job. They play smart and physical, but within themselves. They may not be the most athletic in the league, but they fit our system. Maybe one day if we get a CB we can have a truly dominating D.

Kind of makes you wonder about the previous regime, eh? They went with even fronts twice (two NTs and then two 3Ts), but never and odd front (NT+3T).
