The AFC
Divsion Winners
1. Denver Broncos..........6-0.......... 5-0 in conference play
2. Indianapolis Colts........6-0..........3-0 in conference play
3. Cincinati Bengals.........5-2..........3-2 in conference play
4. New England Patriots...5-2..........3-2 in conference play

Wildcards
5. Pittsburgh Steelers......4-2..........3-1 in conference play
6. New York Jets............4-2..........4-2 in conference play

If this is correct then the Cincy would host the Jets and the Pats would host the Steelers in the first weekend of playoff games with Denver and Indy having first round byes.

The NFC

Division Winners
1. New Orleans Saints........6-0.........3-0 in conference play
2. Minnesota Vikings..........6-1.........4-0 in conference play
3. New York Giants............5-2.........3-2 in conference play
4. Arizona Cardinals...........4-2.........2-1 in conference play
Wildcards
5. Dallas Cowboys.............4-2.........3-1 in conference play
6. Greenbay Packers..........4-2.........3-1 in conference play
?? Atlanta Falcons.............4-2.........3-1 in conference play but lost a head to head with the Cowboys.

If this is correct, the only thing I know is that the Giants and Cards host the first week and the Saints and Minny have a first round bye.

I am trying to understand as far as tie-breakers work if this seeding would be correct. Can someone help me out on this?

The way too early thread. Ask Tampa Bay from a year ago. Reality is we shouldn't as fans worry about the playoffs until after about 10 games. It's fun to talk about since we haven't had a lot of times to discuss in our history but we still have 10 games left. To quote SP, "There is a whole lot of football left"

Bro, this is a FAN website. I am not a player nor am I a coach so I am well within my purview to discuss or entertain things like playoff scenarios, going undefeated, passing and scoring records at ANY time.

Plus, it's really fun for me. :9:

I don't approve of getting ahead of ourselves, as no 6-10 team has ever made the playoffs, but here you go.

Thanks a bunch Sundance! :9:

But can somebody explain to me how it is, that even though the Cowboys beat the Falcons head-to-head and they have identical records that the Falcons beat out the Cowboys for a playoff spot?

also if eagles win tonight it would be eagles packers; falcons and boy would be out.

Two Teams
1. Head-to-Head
2. Conference Record
3. Common Games (minimum of four)
4. Strength of Victory
5. Strength of Schedule
6. Combined Ranking Among Conference Teams (points scored and points allowed)
7. Combined Ranking Among All Teams (points scored and points allowed)
8. Net Points (conference games)
9. Net Points (all games)
10. Net Touchdowns (all games)
11. Coin Toss
Three or More Teams
*If two clubs remain tied after a third is eliminated during any step, the tie breaker reverts to step 1 of the two-team format. Start by eliminating all but the highest ranked club in each division by using the divisional tiebreaker above. After the field has been narrowed to no more than one team from each division, the following tiebreakers are used:
1. Head-to-Head
2. Conference Record
3. Common Games (minimum of four)
4. Strength of Victory
5. Strength of Schedule
6. Combined Ranking Among Conference Teams (points scored and points allowed)
7. Combined Ranking Among All Teams (points scored and points allowed)
8. Net Points (conference games)
9. Net Points (all games)
10. Net Touchdowns (all games)
11. Coin toss

Don't let people get you down SaintsFanInLA. Playoff scenarios and tiebreakers are always fun to figure out!

Head-to-Head only gets someone in if:
1. one team lost to all the other teams they're being compared with
2. one team beat all the other teams they're being compared to.

Because Atlanta and Green Bay haven't played and Dallas and Green Bay haven't played, Head-to-Head gets tossed out.

As Jvititoe helped out with, after Conference record, you have to take Dallas, Green Bay, and Atlanta and look at common games. Because they don't share 4 or more games (only Tampa in common, actually), it gets ignored.

That leaves strength of victory. Haven't done the math on that one yet, but I assume that's where Atlanta beats Dallas.
