From ESPN:

After the New Orleans Saints lost Pro Bowl left tackle Jammal Brown to hip surgery, there was concern about slotting in former seventh-round pick Jermon Bushrod at the all-important position.

But now, as per ESPN.com senior writer Len Pasquarelli, he's played so well that another team's personnel director has indicated that he'd take only Joe Thomas and Ryan Clady ahead of him in a comparison of young tackles.

So that's the problem: which tackle will the team keep for 2010? Brown will be 29 when the 2010 season begins, with many good years left, but Bushrod is three years his junior, and being paid peanuts. Look for GM Mickey Loomis to try and move one of the two, pending a full recovery for Brown.

I personally think he has done a great job in the run and pass...He has a real test today w/ Peppers, but Abraham is no slouch either. If things do work out maybe we can trade Brown for a DT or OLB or draft pick... I like Brown, but if a player is younger and performing just as well if not better then we have to use Brown as trade bait while he is still semi-young. Good to see Bushrod getting recognized though...

Brown's status for next year is up in the air until they decide on wether or not their will be a new CBA, FA if there is one, RFA if not. Bushrod will be a RFA regardless.

I think he's definitely done well enough, but he has been beat a number of times. And it looks like he does get help a lot with chip blocks from the backs. I don't know whether or not they left Brown one on one more than they do Bushrod.

I wouldn't vote him to the Pro Bowl just yet.

But all things considered he's done an admirable job.

Hopefully he just gets better and we can consider trading Jammal Brown for a high pick if it gives us another big play maker but doesn't affect the overal play on the offensive line.

Wow, what a good problem to have. The last couple of drafts have been really good for the Saints, especially on the offensive line. I hope they can keep it up.

Wow, really?? Where is that from? I hope he is at least RFA...to let him walk for nothing would be a waste...

The owners opting out of the current CBA invoked a clause the increases the required years for FA status to 6 instead of 4. This is Browns 5th year. Others fallining under this are Bell, Moore, Evans, Harper that I am sure of.

I guess according to ESPN, all of the Saints' unknowns are either 7th rounders or undrafted signees. I blame Marques Colston and Pierre Thomas :hihi:

Key to beating Peppers is to let him beat hisself. His pass rush is so fearless the Saints should run the ball straight at him. He overpersue a lot.

Good to know, I have no idea. Well, here's hoping he is at least a RFA so we can get something in return if he does leave.

I think Bushrod's done great considering this is his first stretch of extensive game time. My impression of Brown was as a very solid LT and I think Bushrod could reach his level of play if he hasn't already.

Brown has been one of the best LTs in the league but with the injuries starting to pile up and the fact that he's not going to get more durable as he gets older we might have to let him move on. He's going to want a lot of money. This contract is where guys make their real money and he knows this might be his one.

Nice to see ESPN report on something other than Favre, but...

Jermon was selected in the 4th round (125th overall) in the 2007 draft...:covri:

The emergence of Bushrod means the Saints will not be forced to overpay to keep Brown. However, I'd like to have both b/c depth at key positions like LT is crucial to success, and while healthy Brown is a top-10 LT in the NFL, whereas Bushrod is not quite there yet.

NFL.com had a preview earlier this morning on key matchups. They had Bushrod vs Peppers. They mentioned how Bushrod had allowed 4 sacks in the past few games and how Peppers has 6 sacks, and defensive touchdown in the past few games. Seems to me like they were saying that Peppers will have a field day against Bushrod.
