Because what i'm hearing is that the FO basically told Brees, "We want you here." Didn't question his health or his ability to get healthy. That's one thing he has said that made him feel so at home coming to NO.

Did we want Brees all along and snag him up? Or was he the best of two choices?

Culpepper was never an option. Payton is a character guy. Saban is too so he dropped the ball BIG time on that one.

We probably would've drafted Leinart or Young if Brees didn't sign with us, before we found out Houston was taking Mario of course.

Culpepper was not an option. Minnesota wanted a 2nd round pick and there is no way that the Saints wouldve given up pick #34 for Culpep.

Like you said, they wanted Brees all along and got their man. If for some reason he didnt sign, they wouldve targeted McCown and probably drafted a Qb to compete. Also, rumors came out recently that Payton was after Romo, but I think that is just heresay.

^ You're right about McCown. Could've brought him in for much less, and addressed other needs. However, I'm glad as to how this turned out for us, CB play notwithstanding.

Negative Zero.Zero that makes me cry just thinking of the smallest of chances we would have ended up with culpepper

So If Culpepper Is Availble Next Yr U Dont Think Payton Would Look At Him?

Seems like a recall that McCown was actually on an airplane heading to NOLA when Brees was signed, so they cancelled the planned visit -- anyone else remember that ?

As far as the original question goes, I never heard one word connecting Culpepper to the Saints.

Not really hearsay... Payton brought Romo to Dallas as a free agent - They both went to the same College. I'm sure someone's probably posted this before.

Romo was hands-off, however, because Parcells had JJ lock him up with a lucrative extension last year. I believe I have it right - Had Romo been a viable option, we may have seen him here.

Romo may have a great future, but I'll take Brees anyday - Right now, there are only two others I would even consider over Brees: P. Manning or T. Brady. Yet, I'd probably pick D. Brees over both of those because he's just the right fit for the Saints and the city.
