Which is reason why we shouldn't start proclaiming this years draft as the best ever. We are getting good immediate production, but the purpose of the draft is to reap long term benefits.

I believe that Chase Lyman is on our practice squad, so I wouldn't say he was out of the NFL.

Actually the exact opposite. We garnered 4 players with immediate playing time (Colston, Bush, Evans, Harper). That never occured in any of the above drafts. Clearly we've already exceeded them without even taking into account the backups (Strief, Ninkovich)

To make this thread even more fun, and to tie in with some of the flat-out goofy threads we've seen here lately, what % of those who are listed here, currently shown as non-starters (either gone, out of the NFL, or backups), have had nickname threads started in their honor?

"Doberman" Fincher immediately comes to mind. Really intimidating doberman sitting next to the Gatorade cooler, y'know...

Oh and how about those "beasts": Ojo and Keyuo? :chickend:

You can't really draw any conclusions from this unless you compare it to the rest of the NFL.

Just picked a team, and since the Pat's have been very successful, figured I would give them a try

Other than Deuce in 2001, that draft looks pitiful five years out. Doesn't look like the Pats did much better though.

I think it's interesting that the Pats drafted their entire starting D-line and O-line (except for G Steve Neal who they signed as an undrafted free agent).

The major difference would obviously be the 13 starters for the Pats and only 8 starters for us (they did have 6 more draft picks).

More specifically look at the drafts 2003-2005. The Pats got 9 starters and 4 backups from those drafts. However, the Saints, 5 starters and 4 backups from those same drafts. Not to mention that 8 of the Saints drafted players are not even in the NFL anymore (3 day one picks in Sullivan, Watson and C. Grant). During that same time the Patriots have only 4 (none of which were higher than a 5th round pick (1-5th, 2-6th, 1-7th).
