I got my swamp tour. I found a really nice guide named Brian Champaigne. Help me with his pronunciation. PM me for contact information. I definitely recommend his service. Everybody should visit a swamp, even if you live near one, or your grandma does.

See the last page for wonderful pictures.

I have a rubber ducky and a bathtub that really needs to be cleaned. For 25 bucks I can throw our bulldog in the tub with you! He bites about like a juvenile gator.

You don't need a fancy air boat tour, unless that's what you really want which will cost you and you'll need reservations.

You can have perfectly good time at minimal cost or for free at Lake Martin just outside of Lafayette (free, driving around a little wildlife sanctuary, sort of, gators included and lots of water fowl, very scenic). There is a guy that gives little boat rides there, I bought my Catahoula hound from him, kinda strange but harmless.

Or if you want you could try going to Avery Island (more touristy) where the Tabasco Plant is, cost is a couple of bucks for entry donation, and there's lots of wildlife, another driving tour.

Vermillionville in Lafayette is also an authentic cajun settlement preserved in it's entirety that's got a lot of history from the area and is very nice.

Those are the cheap ones that would get you started.

If I could sneek you and your family onto the boat where I work, I'd do it for free. But I work with one other guy (I'm an inspector on cleanup work in the Cameron Parish marshes) and the gubment doesn't like for me to use their equipment for private gain.
I did work with the guy that runs this business (http://www.mcgeeslanding.com/tour.html) for about two weeks. He leased his air boats out for our use when we were doing preliminary surveys down in the marsh. Hope it helps.

But you will need to walk some.

And its a bit late in the year.

Took my wife to see her first gator there. We saw 167 of them. The largest was 15 feet long. Great place for swamp wildlife.

Thanks, Chatawaclan... this is a good start...

dang, 58! this is the one I really want. Your government boat sounds really interesting. I always wonder when Im driving over Bayous, 2 things: 1. What are those guys doing down there? (I know there are a lot of answers) 2. How did they make that bayou so straight, and why did they do it?

bump up an old thread

bumpity. We'll be hitting I-10 in the morning. Someday, I will earn my Cajun Degree, and I'll have my own floating swamp house & pirough.

If you take the US Hwy. 90 rather than the I-10, there are a bunch of them in and around the Des Allemans area. Zam's is the only name I can think of, but there are like 3 right there between Raceland and Des Allemans complete with highway road signs directing you to where they are.
