TCU to the Big East? (1 Viewer)

TCU and The Big East both needed each other. The Big East needed the football cred and TCU conference is falling apart with BYU and Utah leaving. I know they will get Boise but that still won’t give them and automatic Bid.

That's a great match. Geographically it doesn't make sense but the Big East is getting a top footbal program to make the conference relative in football again and tcu is getting to join an AQ conference. TCU no longer has to undefeated every season to get a shot at a bcs game

If TCU falls back to obscurity, the Big East has yet another crappy team. Louisville, Rutgers, South Florida where are they now? I predict TCU follows the same path.

How bad must Boise State be ****** though? They join the MWC, given it legitimate BCS aspirations with Utah, TCU, Boise State, BYU, etc.....

and then Utah, BYU, and now maybe TCU bail?

May be similiar to South Florida, but a little different then Louisville and Rutgers. USF and TCU, due to their states, can take 2nd and 3rd tier recruits and still put together top 25 teams. Louisville and Rutgers have much rougher tracks to sled.

I would imagine it's more likely USF rebounds then TCU falls back to obscurity.

I understand why TCU wants to join an AQ conference, but the idea of a Texas school in a conference called the "Big East" is a little reminiscent of that old Pace commercial that mocked the chili made in New York City.

And more seriously, I wonder about the academic and cultural fit. What schools in the Big East are like TCU--private, religious heritage, urban, sizeable endowment, enrollment under 10,000? Some of the basketball schools, maybe, but among the football schools the closest is maybe--Syracuse?

Meanwhile, I agree that Boise must wish they'd joined up somewhere else.

And a pointed comment from ESPN.com:

Credentials: By joining the Big East, the Horned Frogs are going all-in on the bet that there will never, ever be a college football playoff. Because once you've committed to sending your non-revenue sports of volleyball and track and the like to Syracuse and Connecticut every year (not really accessible by bus from the heart of Texas, last we checked), you're betting your travel budget in a way that not even Vegas high-rollers bet on TCU's football team to cover a 42-point spread.

Anyone remember the 16-team WAC? It was a move made, in part, to gaining access to the BCS. It ended up being a travel and logistical nightmare though.

Really disappointing. My strong preference was for Boise State, Utah, BYU, TCU, maybe Fresno State and Nevada to all end up in the same conference and make a run at the BCS like that. Obviously that's not TCU's fault that it fell apart, but it's a damn shame nonetheless.

I don't understand the travel comment. Most(all) of TCU's current opponents in the Mountain West aren't really accessible via bus either. I understand the Big East opponents are probably further away on average, but it's not like TCU is leaving a conference with schools all within a 500 mile radius.

Yeah, and not only that, but the new conference all has teams in the Eastern time zone, as opposed to having some in the Pacific time zone 2 hrs. behind.
