Bucs-Falcons game is blacked out in Tampa (1 Viewer)

That's absolutely crazy, for two Division rivals with good records, to not sell out?

I know the economy is bad in Tampa, but heck, we sold out the Dome coming back from Katrina, when most of us had nothing.

I seriously doubt that.

*edit* - nm.. it could very well be blacked out, that is so sad.

Didn't the Bucs have a season ticket waiting list 45k strong a couple years ago?

The deadline to sell out your non-premium seating to avoid a blackout is exactly 72 hours before kickoff.

So there is no way that a blackout can be confirmed for that game until Thursday at around 4:05 eastern time (since it got flexed to the late kickoff).

However, every single one of their home games have been blacked out so far, so it's likely this one will be too if I had to guess.

I'm from Canada so have always had to use NFL Sunday Ticket (thus no black outs) so I'm not sure how this works? If the Tampa fans want to see the game on TV, are they able to see it with Sunday Ticket? Or do they black that out as well?

It's blacked out for that as well.

Thanks, I guess the website is only estimating what game will be shown there, although they've been pretty accurate in the past.

No. Sunday Ticket does not show locally blacked out games. Here in Los Angeles, they treat the Chargers as a local team, so if their game is blacked out in San Diego it is also blacked out here in L.A., even on Sunday Ticket. It is most annoying.

Fox generally anticipates blackouts with its preliminary game assignments, whereas CBS waits until confirmation of a blackout to make changes.

The Bucs haven't really sniffed a sellout this year, which stinks as they're a better team than last year's poster children for blackouts, the Jaguars.

FeelTheBrees, games that don't sell out 72 hours prior to kickoff are blacked out in their home markets and any other markets that have signal strength sufficient to penetrate into a 75 mile radius around the stadium, so when the Saints had issues with non-sellouts, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Biloxi/Gulfport were not allowed to show the games. This also applies to Sunday Ticket. It was a huge pain in the butt, but I managed to pull in a few static-filled blacked out games here in New Orleans with all manner of antennae attached to my old TV, usually from WPMI in Mobile, AL. Games broadcast on cable are also subject to blackout, but the radius is reduced to 35 miles, so Baton Rouge and Gulfport/Biloxi would not be under blackout restrictions in the case of an ESPN or NFL Network game not selling out. But again, that's no longer an issue for us.

When Bills games don't sell out, Buffalo, Rochester, and even Syracuse (due to a TINY strip of farmland that overlaps between Syracuse's market area and Buffalo's 75 mile radius) are subject to blackouts.

That's crazy...do the Bucs have PSL that take care of the bill? I mean there is no way that team should be having blackouts. They won the Superbowl a couple of years ago and have had only a few down years...that makes no sense

A blackout only effects the viewing area within a 75 mile radius of the whoever the home team is. Obviously, whoever the away team is, their fans back home would be able to watch the game on TV without any issues.

So in this case, Tampa Bay, anyone within that area could not see the game at all, on local TV or on DirecTV, as both are blacked out. If someone from Tampa wanted to see the game, they would have to drive to the other side of Orlando, Ocala, Ft. Myers or further to watch the game on TV.

If New Orleans were to ever have a blackout (which I hope never happens again), you would have to drive over to Lafayette, Biloxi or further to see the game at all, in lieu of buying a ticket.

Another fun blackout fact: Whenever there is a blackout, the TV station that would otherwise air the home game is not allowed to air any other NFL games during the time slot that is being blacked out. So in Tampa this weekend, if they blackout, their FOX affiliate will have to find a way to fill 3 hours of programming without any football.
