I have a dumb cashier story (1 Viewer)

My ex and I lived in Ms. and his family was from North Carolina. We went up to visit, and went into a Dairy Queen like place(dont know the name of it)to eat lunch. I ordered a chili dog w/ cheese and when I got my order, it was just a bun with chili/cheese. So thinking they had just forgotten(they were busy) to put a wiener in it, I took it back and asked for the wiener. The girl said "well, you asked for chili and cheese" The manager came over and said that I must be from the north, cuz here in the South, this is the way we do it. My response-"Well, in the deep South where I'm from, when we order a chili dog, we actuallly get a dog, If I had wanted a chili dog without the dog, I would have ordered a chili bun." He shut up and fixed me another chili dog.

i once went to Taco Bell and ordered my son 2 soft tacos with lettuce and cheese

i got two soft taco shells with only lettuce and cheese in them....nothing else

i was told that since i asked for lettuce and cheese that's all i got.....shouldn't the meat be on there by default?? do i have to actually specify that i want meat??

soft taco comes with meat, lettuce and cheese. You said lettuce and cheese, no you should not have received meat in your taco...

because taco meat is kinda a given on a taco or he would have ordered a cheese rollup with lettuce?

Or he would have just ordered 2 soft tacos, and received exactly what he wanted.

not everyone knows exactly what comes on every menu item on the list so it makes sense that he would specify exactly what he wanted just incase....

after hearing several thousand stories from an Ex about this exact kind of stuff from the customers,

if you don't know what is on the menu, then ask.

why not just specify what you want on it and assume the burger meat, taco meat, chicken, hotdog, etc is a given unless specified?

Ah, assuming...
Same as the order taker assuming we know what we are ordering when we order it.

so if I ordered a cheeseburger with only ketchup and mustard, I'd just get a bun with ketchup and mustard right?

No. You'd get Meat, Cheese, Bun with Ketchup and Mayo.

But if you want to order that properly. You'd say, I want a cheese burger, Minus Pickles and onions. (if onions come on it of course.)

Or No pickles, no onions....

If you ordered a Coney and said with Chilli and Cheese, don't be surprised if you are missing the dog.

If you order a whopper and say, with just tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, onions, mayo and ketchup. Then the assumption would be, you don't want meat.

What should have happened in Pop's case is 1. Check the receipt. ALWAYS check the receipt. One missed key stroke could screw up your whole meal. 2. The employee should have read the order back to Pop. Stating - No meat or "just lettuce and cheese"

If the employee doesn't repeat the order, you should ask them to repeat the order. should you have to ask them to repeat the order? No, you should not. that should be automatic. But if they don't and you don't check your receipt nor ask them to repeat the order, then it is partially your fault. If you make special instruction, you need to make sure you get add a special instruction of.... "can you repeat that?"
