There are 6 NFC teams right now with a record of 7-3 or better and only 5 of those can make the playoffs since the last spot will go to a team in the NFC West.

Denver in 85 and New England in 08 both want 11-5 and missed the playoffs those seasons.

Thats life in the NFL. It's not the first time it will happen and won't be the last. It's better than the NBA or NHL where half the teams get a playoff spot even with a loseing record.

It's possible that two teams at 12-4 will miss the playoffs.

Can't worry about any of that now. It's all hypothetical. As it stands right now, we can go 13-3, and that will get us into the playoffs no matter what.

I have been thinking this for a while that an 11-5 team could miss the playoffs.
All these teams play each other quite a few times in the next 6 weeks. So who knows?
ATL plays GB, TB, N.O. Seattle at Seattle 12-4 at best hopefully 11-5
GB plays ATL, NYG, CHI and AFC NE 11-5 at best
N.O. plays ATL. TB. and AFC Bal. 13-3 baby im not a homer.
CHI plays Phi, GB and AFC NE, NYJ 10-6
NYG play PHi and GB 11-5 possibly 10-6
Phi plays Chi and NYG 13-3 or 12-4
So it will be difficult to go through all the combination's of wins and losses but with all these teams playing each other the better teams will rise to the top.

It's not gonna happen.

People think this every year around week 11 or 12 and every year teams play each other down the stretch and things start to dilute.

To say an 11 win team misses the playoffs would assume such teams as the Bears or Bucs win 11+ games. It isn't going to happen.

i really don't think tampa wins 11
i do think a 10 win team will miss but not an 11 win team

Pshh. That happens because the NBA plays so many games, and they can afford to have more teams in its playoffs because of how it's a "non-contact" sport.

And if you think an 8-8 team going to the playoffs over an 11-5 team is good, then you have issues. The playoffs are about the best of the conference, so I don't know why the playoff seeding doesn't reflect this.

of the 5 teams with 7 wins

I dont see Tampa or Chicago keeping up.

Although 10 wins aint out of the question for both clubs either, I am however still worried of a 11-5 team missing the playoffs, it is highly possible to happen.

But this has also proven my opinion for a years that the playoff bracket needs to extend to 8 teams instead of 6. Then you go back to look at the select few 9-7 teams that make the Conference title game or SB.
Then you realize the many 9-7 teams that miss the playoffs, sometimes a 10-6 team missing it, and rare occurances 11-5 ones miss it.

instead of expanding the season to 18 games, expand it to 17 with that extra game a playoff game. once the salary cap settled into the league in the 90s, all teams in the NFL was put on a even playing field to win. This is why you need larger playoff bracket.

Looks like Chicago is indeed keeping up....

This happened to New England in 2008 and Denver in 1985. It'll probably happen again after this season as well.
