Just seems with his speed and size, he would make a pretty good FS. Particularly after watching him chase down Parker. He seems to be a fairly good tackler but his cover skills this year have been a little lacking. Just wondering what everyone else thinks.

...I do think he could be gone after this year on another note, just doesn't seem to be playing as well as we hoped.

He played well again yesterday. Craft got killed. Every pass play given up but 1 was on craft's side of the field.

For what it is worth, I have thought the same thing.

Talk about speed, Mckenzie was in a different gear than everyone else. I didn't know he could move like than.

while i agree that Mike hasn't been playing up to his shutdown corner label coming in from Green Bay, he is one of the best CB's we've had. After many years up sub-par secondary play, i think Payton will bring in a good CB after this year. If we can bring in someone and move Mike to the #2 corner, he will do better. With a new #1, Mike at #2 and Freddy at nickel, our corners will be much improved. Not to mention Bullocks is only in his second year and our Rookie SS is hurt. I'm kind of disappointed in Bullocks this year. He was all over the place his rookie season but has been allowing a lot of deep completions this year without any interceptions.

Speaking of our rookie SS out for the year, I wonder if the impact of that is the reaon the D not looking too good. Harper was holding his ground rather well until the injury.

We could use a safety in coverage. How many times has there been no safety help on the deep ball? Bullocks and Stoutmire almost play like the 4th and 5th LB as they bite on play fakes consistently, leaving the middle of the field wide open.

cornerback is one of the hardest positions to play. That being said, we do need help in the secondary. Another corner would do wonders. But do we need a true "shutdown" corner or a cover corner. I think we need a big tall corner that can run and tackle. I am not worried about this team. I will wait until the end of the season and see if we were good enough to make the playoffs. I think if we make the playoffs then we can do some damage there. This weekend was a strange one for good teams. Alot of them lost. So, does that make them bad teams? It shows that any team can lose at any time. There are several areas that we can improve on. Ball security and stopping the run is primary. Taking care of those two items can greatly improve our chances of success. Our passing game is clicking. This game has shown that while we have a lot of work to do we can feel confidant in our team. We will put it all together soon and then we will roll. Remember, it is a marathon and not a sprint.

McKenzie's been playing fine at LCB. He's been covering his men and not gotten beat deep, and he's been playing strong in run support. Clearly, we need more athleticism overall on the defense, but I don't think you need to start with two new CBs, just one.

If we're able to acquire a solid corner in FA to compliment Mike, I think you'll see his level of play increase even more.

He's the right guy back there. He just needs a little help, and I'm sure Sean will get it for him.

Bullocks is solid... and he's still going to get better. Typically, it takes safeties about as long, or longer, to mature at the NFL level.

Also, it was Bullocks who picked off Charlie Frye late in the Cleveland game, that basically ended Cleveland's hopes at a last minute comeback.

well that game answered any questions about mckenzie's speed lol...willie parker has some sick speed...mckenzie has been the least of worries in our secondary..craft is a headless chicken out there...CB's can lay more wood than stoutmire...and well Bullocks to me looks ok...but him and mckenzie can't do it all...good news is that Rudi johnson won't kill us on outside runs like parker did...but..it could be hell shutting down those three receivers..pressure on palmer will be critical...and for the thread lol...mckenzie would make a hell of a FS..but for right now he is exactly where we need him to be...and doing a fine job.

He'd never become a safety. CB's make alot more money.

Just so everyone is clear, and we don't put too much blame on one person and not enough on another. On Parkers second long run, the one where Craft caught him at the 10 late in the 4th, Mckenzie lost the containment on the side that Parker broke free on, and when Mckenzie and craft ran into each other in the 3rd quarter, letting ward get a big first down, Mckenzie ran into Craft.

Let's not make this a Mckenzie kiss *** thread, when he basically blew chunks all day.
