Joe Horn on Marques Colston: (1 Viewer)

I like Joe and I hope he can stick around but unless he agrees to restructure his contract, I am not sure he'll be here.

Nothing Joe has shown since he's been here leads me to believe he is anything other than a team player. Equally as important, N.O. is his adopted home, and he loves the fans.

Sure, money is very important to him, and his family's security and future is as well (it is to all of us), but it's hard to imagine Joe not being willing to re-structure his contract, if that's what it came down to... And I dont think it would be next year anyway - he deserves to get paid next year for what he's meant to this franchise... I think Mickey and Rita know that also.

If we're sitting on the brink of a SB next year (and I believe we will be), Joe's presence will be an important part of that. I would be shocked if he wasn't a part of this team in 2007, and more importantly, disappointed in the Saints front office.

Mickey Loomis is not Jim Finks (Bobby Hebert), and Sean Payton is not Jim Mora (Morten Anderson) - Old Schoolers will know what I'm referencing here.

Horn is only a few months older than Marvin Harrison. I realize there are differences in circumstances, and I realize Harrison is arguably the best in the game, but Horn has been an upper echelon player for the Saints and I think it's premature to speculate that he'll be gone because of money, some minor injuries, age, etc. Guess I'm just thinking that it seems early to write Horn off for any reason right now.

I agree. Though it's ultimately up to Joe if he wants to accept a restructure.

Oh, and I guess I am an old schooler :ezbill:

This is a good point as just 2 years ago he nearly led the NFL in receiving yardage.

What would a Superbowl run be without Joe still here?

Was that renegoiated recently? Thing is that, if you go look at Joe's contract (at least the current one at NFLPA website) his contract REALLY escalates after this season. He'll be making 4-5 million per year for the remainder of the contract:

Salary History
2000 450000.00
2001 500000.00
2002 1700000.00
2003 700000.00
2004 700000.00
2005 665000.00
2006 1635000.00
2007 4450000.00
2008 4730000.00

He deserves every penny of that contract!

...'Horn said he has "hung out" with Colston a few times and has been impressed.

"His calmness, his humbleness and his eagerness to want to learn the game" make him special, Horn said. "I love Marques Colston because he listens. He wants to learn. He wants to get everything out of you that you have as a veteran. He's a quiet guy and his demeanor hasn't changed. That's what I tell him: 'Be yourself. Stay the way you are, don't change.' He's humble and that's what I love about Colston.".....

So, in other words, he's not grabbing cellphones out of goal posts?

If those numbers are accurate... wow... I'd never sign a contract like that. Unless, of course, you recoup some of that back loaded money in the event you are cut.

Why would you say that. I don't think so. I think Joe has a few more years left.

Joe has been hurt the last couple of years, and he is over 30. Colston is now the #1 Receiver and we all know that. Joe has lost a step, and he no longer commands double teams, and he drops balls. Terrance Copper looks good when he is in the game, and Devery is the big play guy. I just don't see Joe Horn here next season.

Somehow I have to believe Peyton looks to the future and decided #87 would be on the team for a few more years. I expect to see Horn go on a tear in the last half of the season.

I agree with Kfran. I'm thinking with him back this week the Bengals could be in trouble. Who do they double? Put single coverage on Colston and he will kill you and Joe can make single coverage seem like no one is covering him. Its a great problem to have..

The numbers are from NFLPA's website. It's pretty typical to have back loaded contracts that have to be restructured. The main thing these days when it comes to contracts is signing bonus and guaranteed money.
