I've been meainng to post this almost every week.

It seems that we drop 2-4 possible interceptions every game. Even the Colts blowout had a couple dropsies.

Sometimes it would have been a very hard catch to make (but not impossible)

Sometimes it looks like it hits the DB right in the hands.

It also seems that whenever the ball is batted in the air or bounces off the receivers hands the football lands in the one place where no one can get to it.

Today was no exception.

What's up with that?

We dropped 2 of them today - and also missed a fumble

Whereas the Rams D - made a great INT today -

We made those plays in 2009

The one P Rob dropped was not easy. There is a reason there're DBs not WRs.

It happens to every team I think. Heck I think the Rams dropped 3 or 4 of them as well.

Roman Harper had a great game, but good lord man you have to make that catch!!

We've dropped at least one, usually at least two, INT's every single game this season.

We clearly need to do better - we are among the lowest in the league in INTs. Yet, it appears that we are getting good chances. Perhaps more catching drills for the DBs??

But as someone pointed out, there's a reason why they're DBs and not WRs. I see dropped INTs in the league all the time.

Harper's drop Int was our 11th this season..

Drew needs to buy a few cases of bottle beer and throw it to all our DB's, each drop is a 5000$ alcohol abuse fine and 50 updowns from GW.

Lack. Of. Attention. To. Detail.

Intercepting passes is all about be focused enough to make the play when it gets to you. I don't know if we've de-emphasized this since '09 in an effort to become a more "traditionally strong" defense (limit yardage). But turnovers are what got us to the super bowl.

I knew going into 2010 that to expect a repeat performance with our '09 INT and turnover numbers was unrealistic. But I didn't expect us to go from top of the league to the bottom of the league in that category.

It's also a matter of mindset. Yes, to some extent takeaways have a luck component that periodically reverts to the mean (i.e. fumble recoveries).

On the other hand, this is the second year in a row that the interception's been a foreign concept to this secondary. Maybe it's that we don't have enough bodies back there to jump routes, get under the balls popped up in the air, etc. because 5-6 guys are rushing the passer. Also, without a lot of zone or cover 2, there are fewer opportunities for quarterbacks to get antsy/impatient and put the ball into a crowd.

However, we blitzed a lot in 2009 and that didn't seem to be the problem. In 2010 we were last in the league in INTs with 9. Ten games into 2011, we're almost at the bottom (three teams only have four) with five INT's, so about the same pace.

It's not like our CBs are helplessly unathletic. But for whatever reason, we don't break on passes, and we haven't had much luck with the strays.
