The anual "Where do find these guys award" Brian DeLaPuenta (barely nosed out Jeb Collins)

:eyebrow: They (well, mostly Big Baby) have been playing lights out since the bye week. They just needed time to get acclimated to GW's defense and now we're seeing the fruits of their labor.

I can live with that. Def appreciate the positive spin on things and believe there is some truth to some of your statements. However, my thinking, collectively for the year and less than 1 sack among those 4 guys in 15 games is pretty disappointing in my opinion.

Who or what unit would you say have been most disappointing this year, on Defense?

Well, I would have to go out on a limb and say Linebackers. I just don't know if they count, I was pretty sure it was gonna be bad before the preseason, I was just hoping the improvements on the D line could mask a bit of the suck. So not sure if "disappointment" is the best term since I pretty much expected/dreaded it.

I. meg repped this because of the disappointments.
Sometimes u gotta give these young a chance. Besides I don't like negative posts.
If u start listening to the negativity on this brd GW would be fired and the scouting Dept. Would b revamped.

The LB play has been bad at times I agree, but not as disappointing imo as DL. We signed two fairly big named DTs, have a former 1st rounder, and drafted a 1st rounder that all equalled less than 1 whole sack.

Whereas, @ LB their were less expectations. Disappointing yes, but not as big as the DL collectively for the year.

LOL, it is 90+% positive and awarding. Nothing wrong with a little constructive criticism at times. I mentioned the improved run D of the DL, but believe the pass rush from the players mentioned has been Disappointing collectively for the year, thus far. Besides I am sure that the post has absolutely no baring on GW job, I assure you. Wow, that is funny, as I know that it was intended to be. :smilielol:

That does make some sense. I was always under the impression that with the schemes GW ran the DL was suppose to be stout against the run while eating up blockers, allowing the extra LBs/DBs that rush on 56% of the defensive snaps to get after the quarterback. It's no accident that Harper may just break the single-season sacks record for a safety.

When I look at the D Line I am more concerned with their ability to stop the run, demand double teams, take on the extra blockers etc. in order to pave the way for our LB/DBs to get in the backfield and harass the QB, and I think they have done an excellent job of this especially since the bye. The team has 31 Sacks total; 15.5 credited to the D Line, 9.5 credited to DBs, and only 6 credited to our LBs. That's right, 6. Total. For the Season. Harper has more. I'm sorry, but when I look at the D the LBs are the biggest weakness and the worst disappointment for me, while the D Line has somewhat under-performed but they also seem to be coming together and meshing at the perfect time. They have been looking solid.

Best 2nd year player not named Jimmy Graham? I go with PRob.

I agree, good post. Harper being the sack master @ SS is mind boggling. The idea of having Abdul Q and Jenkins back @ Safety with Harper up in the box, with Galette on the outside and Casillas when healthy can be like missiles fired at the QB. Throw in a surprise like Martez Wilson or switching to a 3/4 hybrid. Don't get me wrong I like the possibilities going into the playoffs. They seem to be play more as a cohesive unit as of late and the best may be yet to come. :9:

Some of the DT, like Franklin and Rogers, I am noting even expecting sacks from, but Jordan, and Ellis all collectively with (.5) is almost as mind boggling as Harper leading the team in sacks. Also, I love the way Galette gets low, gets pressures and sacks.

If we would have signed let's probably say Manny Lawson and Chad Greenway at LB and they total (.5) sacks then I'd say LB may be a greater disappointment. Whereas our LB did not change much from last year by losing Clark, Mitchell and gaining Humber, Wilson, Herring.

Rogers and Franklin are being used as NT's. Their job isn't to get sacks. Ellis has been a disappointment, especially in a year where we finally gave him some legit NT's to work with. Jordan doesn't get many pass rushing opportunities and he's been almost there a bunch of times.

Still the LB Corp for me, they've improved lately but for most of the year they've been atrocious. Missed tackles and they've been at fault for nearly every big run against our defense because they plugged the wrong gap. I'm just glad Wilson is starting to get reps. I feel that he'll be used a lot more in the playoffs, a new wrinkle to our defense that teams don't have much game tape on.
