It's official.....WRNO is now done as "the rock of new orleans"....104.1 has assumed the title....i checked out 104.1 and they seem to be playing alot less classic rock and some more modern rock....99.5 is now a news talk radio station

Wow. That's truly the end oan era.

Where will I get my hourly fix of Led Zeppelin when I'm in town?

The new station will be MUCH better.......personally, I am VERY happy about the change!

yep...i couldn't agree more....i would rather listen to modern rock anyway...classic rock was never my thing

It's all about demographic. You're not quite old enough to remember when Led Zeppelin ruled FM.

Don't get me wrong, I'm more of a "modern" rock lsitener too. But some of my earliest memories of listening to the 'RNO are dominated by the the daily doses of Led Zeppelin and "Freebird."

And AC/DC. I do like classic rock though.

i see what you are saying blackadder.....but i do have 3 older sisters....i was exposed to all forms of rock....i just never really got into any of it...put it to you this way, the first rock tape i owned was gun's roses' "appetite for destruction"....never was a fan of anything before that....although i do have great respect for what bands like zeppelin, floyd and others did for rock music....also, it's not like if i hear a classic rock song i go running away with my fingers plugging my ears....i can listen to it, but i am just not a huge fan of it

Chances are, it still won't be better than Rock 106.3 though. I'll be updating my radio buttons when I get in the car to leave today. I like Jim Brown enough (despite his conviction), but I'm not going to listen to even more talk radio.

Then again, you think Audioslave is "great" band. Still, I don't like stations with "classic rock" formats because they don't dig deep enough beyond hits. If I never hear Stairway to Heaven, Free Bird, Sweet Home Alabama, Tush, Hotel California, ad nauseum for the rest of my life, I'd be happy. It's not that i don't like LZ, LS, ZZ Top, Eagles et al, but so much of the better material never got airplay outside of the AOR format which died out when I was a little kid. WTUL kept it going until they sucked up to college rock in the mid 80's and popularized stuff like REM, Zeitgeist, Replacements and the other college rock bands of the day (most of which weren't bad but weren't as good musically).

Anyway, good riddance to WRNO. The best they've sounded in the last 15 years was when they temporarily signed onto the Z-Rock format. Sure, there was wimpy hair-metal most of the hour, but you'd still catch some Megadeath, Suicidal, Death Angel and other odd assortment of thrash.

I kinda agree. 'RNO became kind of a caricature of itself and they definitely ignored a lot of the deeper tracks.

Part of it is nostalgia.

I swear whenever I get back to N.O. and would pick up my rental car it was only a matter of minutes before I would get a Zeppelin tune on 99.5. Quite often as started up my Hertz special I would tune to 99.5 right in the middle of "Kashmir."

Always brought me back to aimless cruising around city, or playing frisbee at the lakefront with the trunk popped...

Joe Costello must be spinning in his grave. Just another example of how a corporation can ruin a station when they buy it. It is no wonder Clear Channel is for sale.

Maybe so xxx, but I don't think it was a very good station even going back to my grade school time. WQUE (long since Urban format) and WNOE FM (country for 20 years) seemed to be better stations when I was a kid. JMO But Michael Costello (MnM show) was pretty bad I thought.

See I love the hell out of Zeppelin, but between Kashmir, Stairway, Livin Lovin Woman, Heartbreaker, Communications Breakdown and The Ocean, you'd have thought they might have found the other 90 or 100 songs that weren't played out before I hit puberty.

I remember back in the '90s when WRNO was undergoing a change of ownership (or something). You could listen to Black Dog 24-7.
