For being the 4th to last pick in the entire draft, this kid is amazing. When we picked him, I was like, 6'4" WRs are a dime a dozen. 95% of them cant get seperation and have short, uneventful NFL careers. I thought to myself....this guy is a TE tweener from Hofstra walking into a roster chock full of speedy WRs. IMO he was going to be cut early in camp.
Well the rest is history and I was beginning to wonder, do we have the next Chad Johnson (best)Plaxico Burress (good) or the next David Boston (not so good)?
Colston DOES get seperation and he knows how to use his frame to keep the DB out of the play, which is a skill some WRs spend their careers trying to perfect. No doubt he and #25 will be at the top of the OROY voting.....my question is, after this season, do you think Colston will cool down as DBs get more familiar with him? I remember Donte Stallworth had a good year as a rookie, and then his production tailed off, taking several seasons for him to regain it. Will the same happen to Colston?

There is a nice little article in this weeks ESPN magazine about Colston and why he fell so far in the draft.

When he "cools off" , Hollywood will get hizzot!

Oh, maybe Bush will heat up too!

I also would like to say that Mike Williams comes to mind. Colston is quicker off the line, no doubt, but Williams was a friggin 1st rounder!!!! How did this guy slip through the cracks? Who cares, right? I still say that Dev Hen should start at #2 and let Colston work the slot. Depending on how tough he is, he could be a dangerous slot WR with that frame.

Colston hitting a wall concerns me a little, but I definitely don't think he'll have Stallworth type problems. He's too much of a blue collar type guy. I look for him to get better each year and be a T.O. (physically) kind of receiver.

Well, Stallworth cooled down because his hamstring flared up. He was killing for Philly but his hammy once again messed up his season. And David Boston was a terrific receiver until his knee injury. After that he was never the same. But yo said it youself, he gets separation and uses his body well. Most young big WRs, when they do well, it's only because of their size (but not the USE of their size) and unfamiliarity. He's using his speed and actually using his size, which is the important part. He also isn't dropping much.

I'm anxious to see how Colston responds to dropping a couple of passes or going several weeks with only a reception or two. He's shown the ability to play now does he have the mental toughness it takes to overcome mistakes or the patience to wait for his oppurtunity to make a play?

Burt, the kid shows uncanny concentration and the hands of an annual hawaiian visitor such as Hines Ward.
I know you want to see if he can stay out of slumps or droughts, but don't you think the jump from Hofstra to "Meet Chris McAllister" would have rattled him already?
I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but we look like we've landed a 7th round STEAL.

He's already cooling down as defenses pay more attention to him. The trend from here on should be upwards as he improves.

Don't take my questions as believing I don't think he can overcome those things, because I do think he can ... just that those are the only questions I haven't seen him answer on the field as of yet.

Lots of players have shown flashes of brilliance that lasted longer then this only to disappear from the league. Confidence, maturity, and patience (all of which Colston seems to have) are keys to becoming a consistent elite player in the NFL and those can only be observed over time.

Normally, you would worry about teams being able to view tape and scheme to take away a player who suddenly appears on the scene. Teams can study his tendencies and make corrections.

But here, Colston is just part of the greater onslaught. Teams can't really scheme for him- he's down the list behind several other players.

I think he should probably keep on chuggin.
