Feel-good story travels beyond Superdome
BY MARK CURNUTTE | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER

Before then, in eight years as a college coach, Payton spent two seasons on the late Randy Walker's staff at Miami University.

And Walker helped shape a solid Saints draft by recommending one of his Northwestern players, former Milford High School star Zach Strief, to Payton. The Saints took Strief in the seventh round, and he was active and played for the first time in an emergency start at left tackle in the 31-14 victory earlier this month at Tampa Bay.

"In fact, on the way back from that game, I called (widow) Tammy Walker and I didn't get a chance to talk to her, but I left her a voice mail and told her I thought Randy would be proud to see Zach start in an NFL game."

This guy is amazing. He just gets it. Simply put...he gets it.

Payton obviously understands football, but he also understands the importance of relationships and honors them as shown by taking time to make that phone call.

This is a man who will influence everyone around him and make them better at whatever they do, I am very glad it is our football team that is around him now.

HAHA....I saw the link and thought you got the article from the "other" Enquirer. As in, standing-in-the-line-at-the-grocery-store-reading-about-Batboy Enquirer.

No doubt. Billy Miller said that when he was cut in training camp, SP asked him to stay in shape, and if the Saints needed TE help during the season, he'd be getting a call. Miller went on to say, he'd heard that before when cut, but this was the first time a team kept their word.

It's just our turn to finally find out what some teams in the NFL have enjoyed for years: A total, first class organization, both on and off the field. I can get use to that.

Not a knock on past Saints' organizations - This one is simply special.

And I don't remember WWL-TV doing a 2 parter on Haslett's early years. They ran a story on Payton on, I think, Sunday-Monday night (or Mon. -Tues) with some old video of him playing and interviewing several people from his hometown and a college bud or 2. "This is Your Life' kind of stuff. And then showed some recent pictures where he's had a lot of these people to games or makes time for them when he's in town so he's still friends with them. And I know you guys don't want to hear this kind of stuff but I think I've gone from "smitten" to "almost in love". If he takes us to the Super Bowl this season or next season, wow, I'd be over the moon. I never felt that way about Hasless.

You're suffering from PDPP, man (Post Depression Pre-Payton)... You've gotta let it go.

Payton is so good....

We not only lead the NFC South, but according to the picture to the right, we also lead the AFC South with a 6-3 record. LOL!
