[Bumped to discuss resulting legal actions] Elementary school shooting in Connecticut. (Edit/Update - 26 reported killed, many of them children) (1 Viewer)

What if a teacher wanted to do this, or even volunteered? Went through mental evals, took gun safety courses etc. Would you allow it then?

Better to just hire a pro, someone like Kevin Costener.

Honest answer, I would question their motives and empathy level to be an effective teacher. Especially if they are handling precious little ones that are the ages of those.we just lost. There is a hardening that goes along with shooting another human, begins in.preparation to.kill. I don't want those kind of people over our babies, prek- 5.

As for 6 grade- 12. Go back and reread my rebuke. Simply asking for trouble, putting guns in middle and High school.

I own a daycare center and I am very good with my kids. I have a degree in early childhood education. My kids love me and my parents love me.

I guess I don't understand that. I have taken several courses in pistol shooting, safety and defensive shooting. I will say that Wisconsin does not allow guns in a daycare and I abide by that rule. What would you have me do if an angry father came into my daycare with a gun aside from call 911?

By your argument, and many more in here, I would say that you all agree that Iran should have the right to arm itself against Israel and the United States. They should have the right to go nuclear, what else is a country supposed to do when enemies are armed?

I think, the terrible hypothetical that you just mentioned is why everyone is trying to get some legislation done to reduce or eliminate that from happening. Biden is the man, when it comes to this...prolly look at everything from good fences to detectors/mental health to only allowing pellet guns in the US.

You have to realize that this argument was waged on a massive level as well. What to do if someone threatens you and they may be more armed than you are...accrue more arms? Yeah, that was the Cold War, lead to both sides reducing arms so that Nations can feel safe.

Its a flawed argument at all levels. If one of you kids tells you that the kid beside him just stuck him with an ice-pick, please, just go ahead and give the hurt kid an ice-pick for protection.

I consider myself pro-gun.....but I really don't think teachers should be armed. As Shizzle mentioned, it could be disasterous in the middle school/high school ranks. Arming teachers would get a "no" vote from me.

Nobody wants to hear this, but these types of acts are NOT PREVENTABLE. No law, set of laws, cops on campus, nothing can be done to stop these acts. Nothing. Period.

The scale of these events can decrease....which would be an improvement, but the actual crimes/deeds will continue. As long as these nut jobs are willing to die, it can not be prevented.

Tell me I'm wrong.
The way you worded it, you're wrong. :9:

The types of events are preventable. They're not completely preventable (i.e., some bad **** will always happen), but individual events are preventable. You acknowledge it by saying they can decrease.

But my main point is -- what is the point of saying that? Nobody expects there to never ever be another mass shooting ever again. That's not even brought up by the farthest of extremists. So why say it? Do we say "we'll never prevent disease or bacterial infections or sickness?" Do we say "we'll never stop rape?"

So what's the point in saying it?

My wife is a teacher and I don't think they should have guns in the classroom.

i agree..but to make things very ,very simple..would be...having school districts hire one person.. like me. a retired CO,that by law,has the correct paperwork and mental level to carry a firearm and PROTECT. the use of a firearm should be the last resort for any person that is trained properly to PROTECT. i highly doubt the average 2nd grade teacher that is a 26 yr old female would have any interest in pulling the trigger on a pistol..or get into a hand to hand combat situation..

let your wife teach, that's what her calling is..

life doesnt have to be that complicated..but the gov't makes it that way..

you want teachers..they teach

you want security..then hire people that are trained to secure..

boom

This. Hiring that extra 1-2 guards will not break the bank. If it will, then maybe your school needs to be audited.
