People are talking bout how HICKS should move to DE in the new 3-4 scheme when the truth is, he has all the tools and physical attributes to play NT ... TYRUNN WALKER played DE/DT at TULSA .... He was a standout Dlineman for us in the preseason last year and I think he would make a perfect DE at 6'4" 294 lbs ......... HICKS can be a good run stuffer but he got very limited playing time ....... I think using WALKER/HICKS tandem will help us phase out BUNKLEY and his big fat salary .....

I hope it's open season for every position on our defense. New D.C. needs to evaluate each player and have open competition for all positions. That's what a good coach should do, eval your players, find their strengths and weaknesses, and put them in a position to use those strengths and hide their weaknesses.

AGREED .... I've just had a great feeling bout this guy right from the past offseason .......

I'm from new iberia where walker was born and played football. Me and some friends are talking about this now they all say he can't play 3-4. I will ask more tho.

Your friends say or the coaches say?? .... Coz I think coaches decision is what matters more ....

I forgot all about that young man. Good catch.

The more I read the more I'm convinced our current roster is already better suited for a 3-4 than a 4-3.

I mentioned Walker, and think he will fit in the 3-4 as an DE...I think we have more pieces to the puzzle than we realize so to me we just need to draft guys to help fill out the roster...I dont see guys like Shanle, Casillas, Chamberlin, Humber and other 3-4 linebackers making this team (maybe Casillas and Chamberlin) but we have to fill the roster with guys who play in a 3-4.

He was a standout Dlineman for us in preseason ..... 3 sacks ..... 3 tackles for loss and 7 solo tackles in limited playing time ....
That still doesn't tell me if he can hold the POA. What if we run a 2 gap 3-4? I don't think he's cut out for that. Also, that's preseason competition - backups. He wasn't able to make this field this season and we fielded the statistical worst defense of all time. I'm in a wait and see mode with Walker.

I wonder if it was more to do with the salaries ahead of him than actual ability.

DE: Walker/Jordan/Johnson/Hicks/Bunkly and ILB: Lofton/Hawthorne/Chamberlain/Casillas make those some strong positions on the Defense!
