It ****** me off that the diver just threw the fishing line back in the water as he cut it off. They should mail him a ticket for littering. :hihi:

so this is somehow different from a dog limping toward a human when injured or tangled in something?

so this is somehow different from a dog limping toward a human when injured or tangled in something?

Even moreso, how is this different than a homeless guy asking for change or food? We turn away other humans every day but yet this is an amazing news story.

Dolphins are just way cool :)

this is what surprised me about this video. Sure it's one thing for my dog to come limping up to me with her paw in the air and this sorry look on her face that says "fix it". My dog trusts me. But for a wild animal to do the same ?? usually animals in distress can be trouble.

On another note, how come we haven't been able to translate dolphin speak yet ?

Anatomically, dolphins look nothing like this strange bipedal creature before them, but they recognize it as a sentient being with the means to assist. That there's the trust to do so, in such a hostile environment as the open sea is incredible.

Dogs, for the most part, rely on humans for all of their basic needs. Finding a human to help when they're injured shouldn't be that big of a stretch of the imagination then.

That some feel the need to turn this to a societal debate on how we treat one another as humans confuses me a bit though. Homeless people are, by definition, "people". Most species look to others of their own kind when they have a problem to solve. Social grooming, for instance. When you can't reach that spot, you have another cat lick it for you. Can't reach that nit? Another chimp can pick it (and get a snack at the same time). Come on. To compare the two situations is comparing apples and oranges. The homeless have recourse. There are any number of programs and means of outreach for assistance.

The OP's posting of this video is nothing like one person asking another for help, and it's nothing like a dog looking to its master for help.

It shows me that interspecies cooperation and compassion isn't beyond us as people. That's somehow refreshing to me.

Dolphins live in the water.

if you call that living - as far as i know, no dolphin has ever posted here - how good can it be?

anyway, i worked offshore one summer and was on a jack-up barge heading out to the field
- i was standing on the rail and saw a dolphin swim along side the boat, then he disappeared - resurfaced a bit later -- this went on for awhile
eventually, when he disappeared again i thought to look on the other side of the boat and there he was. and the weird thing is the he "seemed excited" to see me there.
he disappeared under the boat and went to the other side
we spent the next 15 minutes playing this game

it was pretty incredible

Dolphins seem to be pretty intelligent creatures compared to most wild life. They seem to find ways to "communicate" with very little to no previous human interaction.

Its impressive to say the least IMO.
