I jumped the gun on my last try at this, and didn't think it through very much... Still too excited after the move Payton made at DC. Here's another stab at it...

Current Players Released or not Re-signed

Scott Shanle - Not re-signed following extensive status on INACTIVE list 2nd half of season.

Sedrick Ellis - Under performed and doesn't fit the 3-4.

Jonathan Vilma - Too expensive and not a good fit in the 3-4.

Will Smith - ZERO chance he is a Saint next season.

Will Herring - Released because backups shouldn't make what he will be making.

Devery Henderson - Has all but disappeared; isn't getting any younger.

David Hawthorne - Somewhat of a surprise, but I think he's let go in a cap relief move.

Re-Structured Contracts

Drew Brees - Will save significant cap room with a re-structured deal *IF it's allowed*

Jahri Evans - Takes one for the team. Won't effect overall pay.

Roman Harper - Harper could bounce back in 3-4 scheme. He'll need to fix his high salary though, or he could be released. I think Payton likes him though, and he sticks.

Free-Agency

*The re-structuring of contracts and the release of others will give us a little wiggle room in Free-Agency in my estimation*

OT Jermon Bushrod - I believe we will find a way to keep him a Saint.

QB Chase Daniel - Solid back-up, knows the offense, cheap $$

ILB Larry Grant, 49ers - Very good 3-4 ILB stuck behind two studs in S.F. Could come here and start immediately.

OLB Keyaron Fox, Texans - A cheap veteran 3-4 OLB that knows how to play in our new scheme.

CB Greg Toler - Toler is a solid reserve cornerback who can start occasionally without killing a team. He played well at the end of the 2012 season.

WR Brian Hartline - Good size at 6'2 200lbs, runs great routes, reliable hands, and has enough speed to stretch the defense. Entering his prime, and still has upside.

2013 Draft

**I predict we will be awarded 1 compensatory pick, in the 4th round.**

1.) Dion Jordan, OLB, Oregon - Has the upside to be an absolute MONSTER as a 3-4 OLB. Showed solid cover skills at Oregon, and can get after the QB. Similar to Julian Petersen.

3.) Oday Aboushi, OT, Virginia - Bushrod won't be around forever, and his eventual replacement needs to be addressed. Aboushi didn't help himself much at the Senior Bowl, but has the upside to be at least as solid as Bushrod has been in our offense.

4.) Kwame Geathers, NT, Georgia - Geathers is a pure NT, and a mountain of a man. He will rotate with Bunkley at the NT position in the Saints new 3-4.

4.) (compensatory) Cooper Taylor, SS, Richmond - Taylor's stock is on the rise after a strong showing at the EWSG. A tall rangy SS prospect with nice upside.

5.) Braden Hansen, C/G, BYU - A versatile and quality OL prospect that could play OG, C, or maybe even RT at the pro level. Not dominant in any area, but solid all-around. Mild injury concerns.

7.) Caleb Sturgis, K, Florida - Sturgis has been a very solid K for the Gators, and has made a number of clutch kicks during his career. Garrett Hartley needs to be pushed and tested.

No LSU guys?????!!!?!?!?!111?!?one?!1 I wouldn't complain with this offseason. If we could make the room for a Kruger or barwin I'd lose it. Not likely however.

Nope, no LSU players in this mock... I thought about putting Russell Shepard in the 7th round, as a speed WR project, but Hartley has been so inconsistent, I thought a K made more sense.

Why dion Jordan? What has he done in college that would lead you to believe he will be able to step in and start? Who in the NFL put up that few sacks in college then became a stud? I just don't see it! 11 sacks in three years- there are DT with better numbers in this draft. He has talent but I don't think we have time for a project. Brandon Jenkins will be a better player from day one. His stats say he will.

Go check out the write ups and video on Dion Jordan in NOFALCONS "Draft Prospect Discussion" thread. That will paint a picture for you as to why I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for Jordan.

Jordan is just an athletic freak of nature. They had him lined up at CB on occasion at Oregon! He's adept and experienced playing in coverage, he's a solid defender in space, and he's still got an enormous amount of un-tapped potential! He seriously reminds me of Julian Petersen... and I don't know if you remember Julian Petersen or not, but that guy was freakin allsome.

I do remember Julian Peterson the player that had ten sacks in one season at Michigan state. The guy when you watched michagan st. you said that's a player. So how is he and Jordan the same? I have watched several Oregon games and never after did I say man that kids a player. Look at the numbers not highlight videos real players make plays. Potential = project!

Disagree about Aboushi. Don't think he'd be great value in the second. Probably better seen as a RT, which we don't need as we have Marcel Jones who can develop. That's assuming we get our second back.

Also, don't think we can get much relief from cutting Hawthorne based on how his deal is structured. I could be wrong on that but thought it was that way.

Why would we get a 4th as compensation? These rules allows mystify me and I'd love to understand why this seems possible.

I have never seen someone so down on a player they dont watch tape on. Dude, where were you when jpp was being talked about. Where were you when ALL of these prospects were and still are coming out of school after only playing 1 or 2 yrs but the scouts have seen their potential. Jpp was suppose to be a project..cam newton...alfred morris..doug martin..pierre thomas. Stop pretending like you know when they will be good in the nfl.

Are you related to Brandon Jenkins or something? Your lobbying for him in every thread and he probably won't be a first round pick. I like the Dion Jordan pick. Give me him or Mingo and i'll be thrilled.

Dude. How do you know what I watched? JPP made plays when in college. Did you watch him at S. Florida? I see several post about me saying something about Dion Jordan, but all I asked was a few questions on why he was the selection. I am still waiting for any answers. I am a saints fan, and know we have a sever lack of defensive play makers! Why not draft a player that actually makes plays??? No one really knows when a player will be good. But all the guys you listed made plays in college! Half of the names you listed were drafted after the fifth round. At that point it's ok to take a risk. Not in the first round! That's just my humble opinion though.

I don't think were related, but I will check on that. Oh and thanks for making my point. He will not be a first round pick. I am saying we can get a proven player with skins on the wall later. Why take a project in the first round??? We need defensive players that can start day one. My choice of first round pick would be Ogletree. Would not mind Fisher or a big DT either.
