Arguably one of the premier, if not the premier ( debatable ) soccer players in the world. You play for Man Utd. A Premier team in the world. Your contract runs out and you transfer to Real Madrid. Because, well, you want the spotlight.

You arrive at Real amid much fanfare. You go out and start showing why Real paid $100 million for you and pay you $11 million per year on a 6 year deal. You start to bask in the sunlight that shines down upon you. Things can only get better, right?

Nope. You start to play second fiddle to Barcelona and Messi. Every time the tow Clubs meet in ( El Clasico matches ) you score, but so does Messi. You score 2, so does Messi. Then, Messi, in 2012 goes out and out does you by a mile. Wins the Ballon D'or. You place second.

2013 going to be different you think. But your coach is rumored to be leaving, you are rumored to be leaving. Team sits in 3rd place, 17 or so pts behind Barcelona at the top of the Spanish Primera league.

So this past weekend Real plays Getafe. You score 3 ( hat-trick ) which is a feat itself. You love it. The light shines down upon you....briefly.

Because couple of hours later, Barca plays Osasuna, and Messi scores 4. LOLOLOLOLOL.

Oh and you play Barca this Wed. Lucky you.

Messi is the greatest of all time. No one is close. I think we should just all enjoy watching him. Im happy to tell my grandkids one day that i watched him play live in the stadium.

I usually only follow the World Cup, but Messi has changed that. He just makes everything look so fluid and effortless. It's like watching Barry Sanders in his prime, only this guy has to dribble (amazingly I might add)..../mancrushoff

I just don't see Ronaldo staying in Spain for much longer. There was already rumors of him either going to a Portuguese team or back to England. Maybe he's the missing piece for Liverpool to beat Oldham next time.:ezbill:

Messi is just too good to compete against.

that has become my wish....to watch him live.

I watch him do things....just like the defenders do:mwink:. I wish more folks understood what it takes to get to the level that Messi plays at...its a gift. He is truly blessed with an ability that so very few have in a generation.

There are others that I enjoy watching as well...specifically, Ozil at Real, V. Persie at Utd. and Suarez at Liverpool. But still, i hope to one day soon be able to take the wife and kids to Europe and my only treat would be to catch a Barca match w/ Messi playing a full 90.

Yeah - Ronaldo is a great player in his time, whereas Messi is a great player of all time, perhaps the greatest.

If Messi is Michael Jordan, Ronaldo is Isaiah Thomas.

great analogy

in camp nou? how was that? i would LOVE to do that but messi will probably be 50 before i get back to barcelona

tha's just mean/funny - give credit Oldham played their butts off -- Bouzanis not so much

I'm just assuming you guys are leaving out Ibrahimovic because it's understood that he is a god and we are discussing mere mortals.

I'm not at a computer but if you can, post Ibra's 40 yard bicycle goal in that Sweden national game a few months ago. Ridiculous!

cut the pony tail....we'll talk. :ezbill:

Wait...scratch that....ill take the pony tail...just not the "bun" he puts his hair in. Thats just too much.

Part of his skill comes from his sheer size. Granted, for a man his size to be as deft with the ball as he is, is a testament to his skill. But he can muscle defenders off him. He can tower above them with his height. Thats, in part, of what makes Messis' feats that much more enjoyable to watch. Undersized, yet over-skilled.

His goal in the Champions league a few years back at Old Trafford ( or Wembley ) , where he went "limp" in the air to make contact with the ball was one of the best goals I have ever witnessed.

Don't you dare talk about Zlatan's hair and then post a Messi video that song playing in the background. Ibra has more testerone in one strand of hair than that video.

You go out in 2011 and outscore Messi and set goalscoring records, but finish 2nd in the league and Messi wins Balon d'Or.

In 2012, you go ahead and win the league while Messi outscores you and still finish 2nd in Balon d'Or voting.

Cant win.

To me, admittedly a massive Madrid fan for over a decade, Ronaldo wont leave before his contract is up in 2015 at the very least since he's reiterated that anytime asked including recently. He feeds of the challenge of playing Messi. If anyone's watched all their head to heads, you would know that.

Ronaldo has become more and more influential in the Clasico's as they have passed. He's actually outscored Messi in the most recent head to head matches going back a couple years though its very close.

Mourinho will be gone though. Thank goodness
