New Orleans Saints DT Akiem Hicks ready for team's new 3-4 defensive scheme: TP (1 Viewer)

Wonder if he is big enough(or put on more muscle and weight) to be our NT so we dont have to draft 1?

IIRC when we signed Bunkley he was rated as the best against the run playing primarily a NT type postion for Denver. I think it would make more since for him to play there and start Hicks and Jordan at the end spots, while getting a DE in the 3 or 4th round for depth.

Yes! And maybe Dee Milliner in the 1st, if he's there

I think i'd rather pursue an OT with the first pick..Lane Johnson seems the most likely to fall to us, depending on how it plays out. We might be able to trade back and get an extra 3 round pick and still pick up Johnson.

But if we had to go defense, I'd want to pursue Ed Reed let him start at FS and move Jenkins to CB to compete with Prob and put the "loser" at NCB. Then we can draft someone like Rambo Bacarri in the 3rd round and a small school CB later in the draft.

OT is a bigger need than most people are giving notice. Mostly because of how bad the defense is, but the Strief/Bushrod/Brown combination has reached it's ceiling, they aren't going to get any better and aren't very impressive right now. A stud OT at 15 will fix that.

So we have the players for out front 3? That would be sweet because with the back 4 in Loften, Vilma(with a contract cut), Wilson, and Hawthorne, would be nice or at least be decent imho.

So then we would draft an Tackle in the 1st and maybe fix the secondary in the 3rd round our FA?

Might work??

I just can't picture Vilma starting for a 3-4 defense, he couldn't do it at 26 with the Jets, I can't picture him doing it for us at 31 with a bum knee. Even healthly he's just not big enough to play inside and too slow to play outside. Hawthorne and Lofton should be our ILBs, with a combination of Galette, Wilson, Broughton, and a late draft pick/FA as the OLB spots.

Thats what I was thinking.

It would work, but if jarvis jones is available ,draft him,cut or trade vilma and then get like Kyle long in 3rd and secondary 4th/5th

The big problem I see with the back 4 I mentioned and others, is the speed we will need from the back 4.

Hicks imo is a stud strong side DE

Id put him on the weakside to help in run defense...ala Ngata.

But he could fit on the strongside too n have cam play weakside.

Call me crazy but

I wont b surprised if will smith bunkley n jordan are ur starters with hicks backing up all the position n rotating with will on passing downs
