N/S Texans RB Arian Foster To Have Heart Surgery (1 Viewer)

Wow! What a shame it would be for a guy like him to lose his career after how far he's come.

Best of luck to him.

Sounds like WPW, and the surgery is minor. They go in through the leg and up to the heart then burn the extra pathway that is causing the irregularity. If it is WPW he should only be out about a month.

Prayers to Arian thats crazy..heres to a speedy recovery! Guy is one of best guys in the game today.

Wow. That's how fast that life can get crazy. I know the term "minor" was used but anytime you have to go under anesthesia there is a serious risk. And IMHO there is no such thing as minor: heart, lung or brain surgery.

Wishing him the best.

Get well soon Foster. I guess going vegan is out of the question for pro athletes.

All praise is for Allah, and may Allah heal Fosters' body and open his heart to the truth and the beauty of Islam so that he may achieve everlasting bliss and salvation, Aameen.

my girlfriend just went through this surgery in November.. it's a slow recovery for her but she's not an athlete either.. She's just now starting to feel back to her normal self and in fact has gained some extra energy. Anytime you go into anesthesia is never routine, In her case, they had to stop her heart completely for a minute to perform some routine. Scared the crap out of me. I wish him success and hope everything comes out ok.

Uhhmmm what's this talk about JESUS and Allah? did i miss something?

not to minimize the procedure foster is going though, but I feel "heart surgery" is quite an overstatement for a cardiac ablation.

I absolutely love cardiology and hope to be one someday, but the risks for what I feel is "heart surgery" i.e. CABG, valve replacement/repair, transplant which usually requires sternotomies, is very different than a procedure done percutaneously.

(I only say this because of the reaction I had when I saw the thread title, then realized it was ablation...heart surgery--->likely not playing ever again, ablation--->likely coming back to full function in 2-4 weeks, if not sooner) regardless good luck to him.

Don't forget real surgeries to include the children and their congenital heart defects (CHD) . My 1 y/o had her first 2 single ventricle open heart surgeries. It just so happens February is heart month and the 7-14th is chd week. 1 in 100 babies have a chd and it is the #1 reason for death amongst babies.
