Goodell stands by Saints

At his annual “State of the League” press conference on Friday in New Orleans, Goodell said that he stands by the decision to take the Saints’ second-round pick — and stands by all of the other decisions he made — for the simple reason that he still believes the Saints ran a bounty program for three years, in violation of NFL rules.

“The reason we’re not returning any of the draft choices or reversing any of the discipline is because it occurred,” Goodell said.

But if that’s the case, why did Goodell say 10 months ago that he would consider a change to the discipline to let the Saints keep their second-round pick? According to Jeff Duncan of the Times-Picayune, Goodell clarified after the press conference that the only modification he was considering was to allow the Saints to keep their second-round pick if it turned out to be more valuable than expected.

My favorite comment:

He said 10 month ago “IF the Saints COOPERATE with the NFL and “assist in the development and implementation of programs to instruct players and coaches at all levels on principles of player safety, fair play, and sportsmanship” the league will consider “modifying” the forfeiture of their 2013 second-round draft pick.”

What has he said today?

The reason we’re not returning any of the draft choices or reversing any of the discipline is because we still believe the Saints ran a bounty program for three years.

LOL He is a big liar.

Goodell is a pile of fecies.

So if we had a higher pick in the 2nd then he would've given it back?

Of course...according to him - today.

As usual, he modifies his statements as he goes, trying to cover up the last lie with another one and pretend that's what he had meant all along - until the next statement covers up that one, of course, then THAT is what he really meant all along. And on and on and on.

If I were an NFL owner, I'd want to be rid of him because he is absolute PR nightmare for the league (not to mention a loose cannon who might blindside me at any moment).

What's brown and sounds like a bell? Goodell - aka dung.

Except it wasn't a Bounty system, and was never proven so.

every time that man opens up his mouth.. I start to feel ill... I wish someone would shut him up.

Shameful. I keep thinking Benson will throw his weight around on this, but I guess it isn't going to happen. To be fair, I'm not sure what he could do, but if I were in his shoes I'd be raising holy hell. Especially considering how light the Patriots got off.

Hell, the evidence is so "seemingly" (read: actually) non-existent, DeMarurice Smith said flat out there wasn't any bounty program.

A lot of people don't even remember he said it cuz ESPN and such barely reported it.

He is one of the biggest if not the biggest pile of excrement that i have ever seen involved in professional sports. I knew we weren't getting that pick back long ago. He's a lieing piece of garbage. I wonder if he has his hand maiden aiello running along side him to massage his feet when needed. The NFL FO is trash.

Yeah, enjoy your weekend in NOLA jerk. They said on ESPN that there's a lot of establishments that refuse to serve him. This dude deserves to be treated like crap. First it was bounty, then it was pay to injure, then pay for performance, and now to justify his stubborness, it's back to bounty again. Sigh....
