Since the Fuher has spoken and we wont be getting our 2nd rounder back, I am starting to warm up to the idea of trading back.

At first, I didnt like the idea because we rarely get an opportunity to draft in the top half of the draft, add in the fact that this draft is loaded with D-Line talent and that is one of our biggest needs, I would not want to pass up an opportunity on a true BLUE CHIP player. Blue chip meaning Pro-bowl, all-pro, great player! And I still feel that way, if a guy is there that we feel will be an absolute game changer on defense, we need to take him.

But if not, I dont have a problem with trading down. Looking at the draft chart, we should be able to trade down to atleast 19, and gain 2nd rounder. If there still a good bit of D-Line talent on the board, why not.

Guys like Okafor, Moore, Ansah, and even Jarvis Jones could still be availabe in that area.

I normally wouldnt care about a 2nd round pick much, but being that we are coming off the worst defense in history and making a scheme change, we need as many quality picks as possible. We have needs at LB, DL, CB and S. Some needs are greater than others but I would love to snatch a ball hawking safety or strong press corner.

Id completely want it. Id rather sign a Veteran LT in FA and trade back with whatever team is looking for a LT if Lane Johnson gets to us@ 15

You are right. GUys like Okafor, Ansah, and even a SS like Matt Elam might be available. Regardless we need more picks....especially if this ends up being more of a rebuilding year than im projecting.

I think it depends on the Saints board. I mean, if there is a player that they have as top 10 sitting there, i cant imagine them wanting to move.

On the other hand, if they have guys sitting there around 14-16 but like the guys rated 18-20 just as much...why not!

I just hope they get good value and not cleveland browns value.

We also need to get some work out of our late round picks. Looking at what Seattle has been able to do in the late rounds has been absolutely amazing.

If Fisher, Jones, Jordan, Lotulelei, or Mingo are on the board, I am against trading back. The other thing is, I have always been a quality-over-quantity person. More picks does not translate to success. I would much rather stay put and grab a guy who can be a stud than to slide down just to pick up a pick or two. The other thing is, we would be hard-pressed to recoup a second rounder by sliding down. The other thing is, we will not fill every single need we have in this draft. Even if we were to take a player at each position of need, there is no guarantee that said player will be able to fill the need. The more and more I think about it, I wish we just stay put.

If there's no one they really like, I think moving back is a good move.

However, if there is a stud on the board regardless of position, I'd pick him.

i think we would have to trade down too far to pick up a 2nd.draft a stud olb.if available.ML does a great job filling needs in fa.but dont see him getting a quality pass rusher.

What have we been saying all season about how we lacked a play maker on defense? Trading down won't help our chances of landing one.

Missing a 2nd round pick isn't a big deal considering this team was missing a 2nd, 3rd, and a 6th in 2009 and we stayed put and drafted what we saw as the BPA. This team doesn't have a history of trading down and while not having a 2nd round pick probably comes as a surprise to the fans I'm sure Loomis saw it coming.

Agreed, that's why I said in the OP, if we dont see that game changing playmaker there at 15 and feel we can still get one 4 or 5 picks later AND pick up a 2nd, then why not.

Obviously this is all hypothetical and you need trade suitors also.

But I agree, if a stud defensive player is still there at 15, we need to make it happen.

But this draft has some real nice depth at DB and DL that I would like to go after.

I like it.. EXCEPT if Jones is there at 15... If he is you have to take him there... Risking another 4 picks to hope he's still there is too risky, to be honest i'd be surprised if he's there at 15, but IF he is we need to snatch him there. Game changers are hard to find, i believe he will be one.

I don't understand what some people on here see in Mingo, and I'm a huge LSU fan. Maybe its the cool name I guess.
Agreed. I wouldn't take him in the 2nd round.

And yes, I'm wearing a flame retardant suit. :hihi:

3 spots won't get you a second rounder based on the formula GM use to evaluate pick trades.

3rd and 4th sure. but not a second rounder

So yeah A team would have to be desperate to get that #15 pick to give up their second.

Our 1st round pick is worth 1050 points.

pick#19 in the 1st is 875 and in the 2nd is 390 total: 1265
