Wow. I'm suprised at the respect given. The rest of the county hates on us so much so I'm shocked to see this.

I get the feeling that the rest of the country are just tired of seeing the usual teams bringing home the top prize. If you're not a New England, or Green Bay, or Pittsburgh, or NY Giants fan, you're glad to see anyone else in the winners circle.

The Saints were the 'feel good' sports story of 2009. I'm just hoping that these same people will remember the 'league-imposed' struggles we faced when we're back on that podium once again.

Not that it really matters, but I like it when I see folks around the country adopting the Saints as their 'second team'.

I don't believe the rest of the country hates us. Goodell and ATL maybe, but the rest of the league knows we were screwed.

1. '09 Saints had one of the best records and were the most dominating during (most of) the season, plus knocking off all the top QBs during the year. That #1 is well deserved.

2. If there's a team being hated on, it's the '04 Patriots, who have 50% more 1st place votes than we do but still trail in 3rd place, meaning that a lot of fans are rating them lower than their 17-2 record would suggest.

Minnesota butthurt fans showing up in droves in the comment sections. They still think they are still confused to think that beating us would have meant an automatic victory in the Superbowl. Butthurt hate is the best kind.

I think it's pretty cut and dry.. I mean, you had 2 teams that were 13-0 at one point in the regular season, both #1 seeds in the playoffs, and quite possibly one of the most perfectly played Super Bowls ever! You had only 2 blatant dropped passes, one by each team. The rest of the game showed why both QB's were the best in the business.. surgical drives back and forth until one QB made a devastating error. No penalties by either side to speak of.

Yes.. I'm a homer. But truthfully, go back and look at that game play by play.. it was just a beautiful game!

Bill, as much as the media tried to make us the feel good story of 2009 to suit their needs, I disagree. Now 2006, return to the Dome after a horrendous natural disaster, winning the division by going 10-6 after sinking to 3-13 the previous season = feel good story.

In 2009, the Saints were a team that kicked most opponents' *** during that SB run. It only felt good to us - there was butthurt flowing through several other parts of the country.

There were two story lines for that super bowl: the Saints leading the city in it's recovery from Katrina, and Peyton Manning as the greatest quarterback that ever played the game. Almost without exception the media decided if Manning won SB 44, he would have GOAT title and it wouldnt even be close. I am not surprised we were chosen as #1 given the hype surrounding Manning for that game.

A very well-played game between the AFC and NFC #1 seeds. And no referee controversies, as much as Tony Dung-y would've liked to create one due to his ignorance of NFL rules.

Even Peyton Manning or Reggie Wayne's mistake was in part due to Porter taking off like a rocket towards the ball, making the catch on the run moving in the opposite direction of the ball.

Not sure Payton made an error as much as Porter made one hell of a read. I watched that play over-and-over and listened to lots of analysis, and it was a play that Manning ran with success many times. Porter just knew it was coming because of film study and the play was over basically before it started. Porter did not bite on the outside fake and help his inside ground the whole time.
