I am a Saints fan living in Georgia (there's actually alot of us).

I follow UGA closely though I'm not a fan.

UGA would be jumping for joy if TG were to leave. Doesn't give me the warm fuzzy feeling I want, when his previous post can't wait to get rid.

Main concern, lack of adjustments.

Fired up, intense, aggressive, crazy in a good way...yes. Intelligent during a game with adjustments? The worst.

You are looking at a defense that is probably going to have 3, yes 3, number 1 picks in Jenkins, Jones and Rambo. Meanwhile, they gave up ASTOUNDING numbers to SC, UT, Bama and Neb. I mean HUGE numbers.

They win the national championship if they hold Bama to under 300 yards rushing.

i was thinking the 3rd would be ogletree not rambo, think rambo goes in the 3rd or 4th

I'm actually with you on this one. UGA has had a ton of talent and a decent D, but they have been torched against halfway decent teams (miss. St., Auburn). and alot of these games have included a comeback by the o ther team in the 2nd half.
On the other hand, he is a good teacher-and that is something t his D needs, so IDK.

He would not be my top choice either. Major talent but something less than a great defense and actually worse year over year. Choke sign to FL kicker and run in with Vandy coach seems to indicate an inability to properly direct his emotions.

Let's hope the unknown candidate is someone better than Ryan and Grantham and he gets the gig!

Imagine the adjustments needed just coming over to the pro game.

I don't know that I'd place much emphasis on what a college team's fans have to say about anything. As shortsighted and irrational as some pro football fans can be, I find that those who would describe themselves as primarily college fans are even more so.

Ogletree and Rambo are both first round talents. Rambo is projected in the third-fourth due to off field concerns, and those same issues could cause Ogletree to slip to the second day, if he doesn’t provide satisfactory answers to the questions at the combine interviews.

You are very much correct, but so is he. Having watched almost every UGA game that he has coached, there just seems to be something missing that should be there. I’m not saying its him, but it is a tad disconcerting when this hire is so impactful to the Saints chances to win another Super Bowl before the current window closes.

UGA gave up like 184yards rushing per game in 2012, that alone puts me in panic mode given what backs are in the NFC south.

Why is everyone throwing praise at the Georgia defense? They finished 6th in the SEC in total defense behind Alabama, LSU, Florida, South Carolina and Vandy.

Yet Georgia will be sending more defensive players to the draft this year than all the other teams in the SEC outside of LSU.

So he had loads of talent yet finished 6th in conference in defense?

They gave up 23 points to Buffalo and not the NFL team. They gave up 20 points to Florida Atlantic, they gave up 44 to Tennessee, 35 to South Carolina, 32 to Alabama and 31 to Nebraska. For a team that has Jarvis Jones, Alec Ogletree, John Jenkins, Baccarri Rambo, Kwame Geathers, Sanders Commings and Cornelius Washington who are all projected to be drafted that is horrible.

The last 8 years of being in the NFL he only coached on one team with a winning record and that was the 2007 Browns were he was fired after the team posted the 30th ranked defense.

It's not like he hasn't been a NFL defensive coordinator before either, he has a lot of experience and not much in the way of results.

These are the ranks of his defenses in the NFL as coordinator.
2002- 16th
2003- 31st
2004- 23rd
2005- 16th
2006- 27th
2007- 30th

So in 6 seasons as defensive coordinator he has:
0 top 15 defenses
4 bottom 10 defenses
2 defenses that finished dead in the middle

I'm not a fan of Georgia.

Beat Auburn 38-0 holding them to 57 yards rushing. You must be thinking of someone else.

People in here have fallen in love with Grantham for all the wrong reasons. The love him because HE IS NOT RYAN. Sorry...that's a bad reason.

The problems with Grantham are more concerning than Ryans. Grantham does not have near the NFL experience...and his Georgia defenses, though being blessed with NFL talent, were never top SEC defenses. A big part of this was game calling and adjustments.

Also, the problem that people have with Ryan are 1) his name and 2) the way he looks and 3) his occasional big mouth. But his players love and respect him. They all praise him for being a great defensive mind.

Grantham on the other hand has had issues internally within front offices. He tends to rub people the wrong way with his cut throat attitute. He is also an intense, fiery guy...so if you are looking for the antithesis of GW...don't look here. Grantham is also not the "young blood" that people think that he is. He is only three years younger than Ryan.

I am not saying that Grantham is a BAD DC candidate...but the love for this guy is blinded by people's hatred based on perception of Ryan.

I personally have Keith Butler and even Teryl Austin higher on my list. But third on my list would be Ryan...then Grantham.

UGA's defense disappears against better opponents as well. Throw Florida out, they had the 103rd ranked offense in college football.

I don't know if I want Grantham or not but as far as Ryan goes, I personally don't care what he looks like or what his name is. I don't really care about him having a big mouth as long as he can back up whatever he says.

Personally, I think the Saints should keep looking and maybe they can find a "diamond in the rough" because it doesn't seem like Ryan or Grantham is a home run.
