RT @PFF: 2 corners this season allowed more than 1,000 receiving yards: NO's Patrick Robinson (1,071) and DeAngelo Hall (1,045). Only 4 in past 5 yrs

RT @LarryHolder: Um, not good for the #Saints CB RT @PFF: Patrick Robinson also led all CBs last year in giving up 9 TDs through the air. Not ideal.

so jason david, a zone corner, comes here to play man and fails

then patrick robinson, a man corner, comes in to play zone and fails

blame the players? or the scheme?

P.Rob was getting torched. Cant blame it all on no pass rush either. Dude just has brain farts some times. Sometimes he was passing WR's to a non-existent safety. Other times he was just playing with terrible technique.

Then there are times where he was playing outstanding.

It's funny because that was the view on him coming out of college. Im not sure it will ever change.

His consistency was one of his biggest question marks heading into the draft. ESPN scouting analyst Todd McShay described Robinson as a "first-round talent" with the tools, ability and quickness for the NFL. But McShay warned before the draft "the inconsistency will drive you nuts."

That McShay quote describes P.Rob perfectly. The guy has everything you need in a CB. Speed, quickness, quick feet, athleticism, decent ball skills, etc. But he is just so damn inconsistent.

PFF blames defenders in coverage in a weird way, often times whomever is responsible in coverage is obvious, but when you are playing zone it gets very shaky and I assume that often times they just guess. If you know that there is suppose to be 2 safeties deep and your man beats you who has the responsibility when the guy catches a pass 25 yards down field?

You can also blame just straight up confusion in the secondary. It was ridiculous at times.

But 3 years in I think it's safe to say P.Rob is an up and down player. We've seen it in 2 schemes now.

i dont think inconsistency led to this number.....you can be inconsistent and still stop people

this number is probably more a result of PFFs wonky ratings systems.....makin up numbers for guys when they arent certain of their assignments

PRob and greer both struggled pretty handily in the zone scheme...but thats probably more to do with the zone than their actual ability

both of those guys are outstanding man corners......id expect them to both be back on track next season

Come on man. "Outstanding" is not a term I would use to describe P.rob or Greer right now. Even under GW's man scheme they struggled a lot in 2011. Not as bad as 2012 but they did struggle. Not sure if PFF is taking into accout blown coverages by safeties and things like that. But to say zone is the only reason they struggle is just flat out not true. P.Rob has had struggles since coming into the league man or zone. And Im one of his biggest supporters.

Who is responsible for this? P-rob? If you look at the PFF stats, yes.

If you look at the PFF stats for the Denver game the blame appears to be assigned to P-rob

i just think that this is a case of memory loss

it happens to everyone when we go from year to year....people forget how a player has played previously

greer especially was being considered for the pro bowl and was considered one of the best corners in the league by lots of people here

many people believed that PRob made porter expendable

i dont think we've seen enough of robinson to pass judgement on him at all considering hes played under 2 very very different schemes and 2 very very different coaches

nobody had a great season last year for us except for harper(IMO) and that usually gets me at least 1 red thumb for saying that

i truely believe that spags system was just not the right fit for our guys......it took me awhile to come to that conclusion but the players said it, and sean payton echoed it when spags was fired

expect a bounce back year

you cant always trust made up stats

Thats becuz harper didn't have a great season either. No one on the defense did..except maybe Cam and Lofton. Its expected though because when an entire defense plays horribly even the guys that are playing well still aren't playing up to par.

Harper is a tough one. Switching to a 3-4 means that the SS is more likely to have more coverage responsibilities. Do you want harper in Coverage more than he already is?

I normally agree with u on most things but some of these guys though they are still good players aren't necessarily needed fixtures. Malcolm Jenkins is every bit the leader that Roman is. Which would make him expendable in the in that category as well.

Im not calling for his head..but a trade to a team that could utilize his talents better would not surprise me. In fact a trade would tell us exactly what u are trying to say that Roman is still a well regarded safety...but he has his negatives and i think theyll stand out more in this 3-4 scheme.

I remember very well. Greer played very well for us in 2009 and 2010, although he was injured a bit. He played OK in 2011, and struggled mightily in 2012.

P.Rob struggled for the most part in 2010, in 2011 I thought he had his best year, although he did struggle at times. He took a step back in 2012 but even then had some games where he played great. It goes right back to him just being an up and down player. Some games he will lock down his guy, some games he will get torched. Going back to his college days it is just who he is.

I do agree, that there is still a chance P.Rob can be that legit #1 corner because he is young and still learning the pro-game. He has all the tools no doubt about it.
