No trades, just straight up drafting with what we got.

1st - Dion Jordan - OLB - Oregon- I could see Dion being a very dangerous SOLB. Length, quickness, fluidity. You want him to rush the passer? No right tackle in the NFL can block this guy off the edge, especially with big Cam Jordan protecting him. Need him to drop into coverage? The guy could come in and instantly be one of the best if not the best coverage linebackers in the league. Drafting him also frees up Martez Wilson to play WILB. With two freak athletes on the field both capable of dropping into coverage, our defense becomes very confusing. Imagine Junior at ROLB rushing the passer every down and then not knowing if Tez or Jordan is blitzing. Hell, let's just send all 3.

3rd - Phillip Thomas - SS - Fresno State - This dude can flat out ball. He's your prototypical thumper with ball hawk skills. He's the kind of guy that always seems to be around the ball. He's the kind of guy that a quarterback always needs to be aware of in the passing game and the running game. He would be an instant upgrade to Harper as he can do everything Harper can do and more. Plus he's a lot cheaper. Note - Fresno State had 2nd best pass defense in NCAA last year.

4th - Pick change. Previously Xavier Nixon, T, Florida. I'm assuming here we re-sign Bushrod Kwame Geathers - NT - Georgia - You can't teach 6'6" 350 lbs. If we end up running a 2 gap scheme, the behemoths Hicks, Geathers, and Jordan could free up an extremely talented young linebacking group to make some big plays. Our front 7 would be young and dangerous.

5th - Kenny Okoro - CB - Wake Forest - A big (6'1), fast (4.48), and smart corner. Can't be worse than J Patrick. Has all the tools to be a lockdown man corner.

6th - Chad Bumphis - WR - Mississippi State - Not a Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald type guy, but he puts up insane numbers. A younger Lance Moore with more upside. He's quick in and out of cuts and can stretch the field. He could be another dynamic big play threat for this offense.

7th - Michael Williams - TE - Alabama - Purely a run blocking tight end with red zone play-action sneakiness. Similar to David Thomas but a much better run blocker and probably just as good of a goal line receiver. No way he gets picked up before the 7th round.

4th - Xavier Nixon - OT - Florida - The guy is insanely athletic for a 6'6" 320 lb guy. He has some very long arms which is extremely important and often overlooked. He apparently is very talented, yet inconsistent. I think we should be able to get every bit out if him.

i agree with this draft except instead of a wr we should get a NT or a TE or maybe even a DE

I agree that those are some glaring needs, but I don't think there are any tight ends/nose tackles/DE that offer as much upside as Bumphis in the 6th round. If we re-sign bushrod I could see Kwame Geathers being taken instead of Nixon.

Don't forget we have a 7th rounder. Ruud was waived in time to void the deal, October 8. Then he was picked up by the Texans two days later.

Awesome, wasn't aware of that. I'll make an addendum.

Good call.

Some folks may not like him, but IMO, while he aint great, Bushrod is a solid starting NFL LT. He's a young vet who knows the scheme and the O. And I keep preaching the importance of continuity along the O line. We'll never get any if we continue to change personnel EVERY offseason. Because of our tight cap situation, give him a contract with a nice signing bonus over 4-5 yrs, and he wont cost much in yr one against it. But most importantly, with JB signed, we wont have to use an early pick on an OT.

Meanwhile, we could use help at every level on D: D line, LB and DB. In Jordan, Thomas, Okoro, and Geathers we get just that. Whether they start, become part of the rotation, or backup, all can can come in and contribute as rooks.

Cant ask for more than that!

Love the Williams pick. Watching him play a few times, I thought he was pretty decent. He showed nice hands and quikness. What I didnt know is he's such a good blocker and that he's 270 lbs. Big Dude!

I just dont know if he'll be there in the 7th rd. If he is invited to the combine, and works hard enough, he'll drop 10 lbs and improve his 40 time by a tenth. If he runs a low 4.7 or better, he will help himself alot, and may get the call in the 6th rd.

Geathers looks like a monster! A real hulking brute of an NT! :worthy:

I'm wary of getting another wake forest player after the last ones  but a really good mock draft, thumbs up and kudos man

First of all I love the draft! I wish there was a tackle in there because strife is not a starting caliber OT, and we might not resign Bushrod. I am not high on Kwane Gathers at all, while he looks the part physically, it doesent translate on the field. He was horrid technique and constantly plays wayy to high pad level. Other them that great job +1

I like this draft as well.

As I said earlier, signing Bushrod is sooo important. Keeps the O line stable, and allows us to go more D in the draft, which we REALLY need! It'd make sense to take Dion Jordan at 15.

But if we dont re sign Bushrod, in my plan B, I'd sign OLB Anthony Spencer in FA, then draft Eric Fisher at 15.

Losing that 2nd rd has hurt us really bad. If we had it, even with JB signed, we could still go OT in the 4th/5th rd. If he passes his physical, I'd a taken Chris Faulk.

KG may not be a perfect fit, but with some coaching, he could be a solid, big bodied rotational player for us.

Its all so early, but thats my take for now.
