Easy, you score points! Until this team gets shut down corners, we have to score points. You don't do any favors for your mediocre defense when you can't score in the third qtr and you play to the level of the competition!
I am still a fan! I love the never say die attitude this team has now! But the offense has to score every other possesion! Period! This isn't a magic formula, the offense has to make up for the defensive shortcomings!

Finally someone who agrees with me. This team has a mediocre/poor defense and relies on it's offense to light up the score board and play flawless football. When the offense has a poor game(s) then there is little to no chance of winning with this defense.

Defense wasn't the problem. I'll say it again.

If we go into the 4th quarter with a 24-10 lead, the defense plays a different game. It plays soft, doesn't worry about the run, and Chad Johnson doesn't eat Thomas alive. The defense played great for 3 quarters, that is the most we can expect out of them. The offense has to do a better job protecting the defense.

There's poor offensive games, and there's 2-pick-in-red zone, 1-pick-for-6, piss-poor offensive games.

You certainly cannot expect any but the best of defenses to keep an offensive powerhouse like Cincy in check with those kinds of mistakes. We weren't playing Cleveland or Oakland today.

I don't think the defense cost the Saints the game just that they were once again exposed as mediocre. It's safe to say without Brees' three interceptions (two of which were clearly forced/poor reads) the Saints would have probably won the game.

Given that, what can be said? Brees had his worst game of the season but, of course, he's still an exceptional NFL quarterback. Next week I'm sure he'll come out improved and wiser from the experience because that is the type of player he is... however, next week the defense will still be the same porous unit it has been since after the Falcons game.

Now granted, nothing can be done to fix the defense until the offseason whereas you can correct some of the offensive mistakes to salvage a possible NFC Championship appearance. I just have a tendency to think long term. The offense is good enough to compete for a title... the defense needs a lot of work.

Agreed, this one is mostly on the offense, particularly Drew Brees.

Yeah and Mike D says that Charles Grant will command big money next year ? For what ? 7 sacks a year and can't stop the run? or maybe can't get to the QB? I don't see why losing Grant is any big deal.

Look at the Colts......

Yes, the Colts are pretty similar it's just that Manning hasn't really had a bad game and they've gotten all of the lucky breaks so far. That said, I think the Colts are going to be in trouble if they run into the Ravens in the post season.

Come on Dude "FLawless Football" - 13 Turnovers in 3 games

7 Points in the second half of last weeks game and a poor "scoring offensive" preformance today.

The D was absolutly part of the problem, but I feel that 65% of the problem in these last two weeks is the offense not producing when needed. dropped passes, dropped balls, and plain ole' mediocre play will leave your D hung out to dry.

but regardless of the score. you just cant let good WRs lose for one millisecond, not one, or your gonna get burned every time.

two stats to mull over, and I hate basing opinions on stats, but here they are. 12 turnovers in the last four games(and not all of those are on brees), and the Saints Offense is almost last in redzone productivity in the league.

Well, your defense is a problem if the mentality is that your offense has to protect it. Granted in this game, the offense didn't play flawlessly, which it apparently will need to do in order to protect the defense.

Obviously I meant "flawless" in the games they won and that they will almost assuredly lose games when the offense makes mistakes because the defense isn't good enough to overcome those mistakes.

That's a great summation of my thoughts. I realize this year that's the hand we as fans have been dealt but people just need to keep that in perspective and hope Loomis and company can improve it in the offseason.
