So here's our last 10 1st Round Draft picks

2011 24 Cameron Jordan
2011 28 Mark Ingram
2010 32 Patrick Robinson
2009 14 Malcolm Jenkins
2008 7 Sedrick Ellis
2007 27 Robert Meachem
2006 2 Reggie Bush
2005 13 Jammal Brown
2004 18 Will Smith
2003 6 Johnathan Sullivan

Ellis and Sullivan were busts
Jenkins is decent and could still save himself from being labeled that
Brown was a great 2 Pro Bowler Tackle but injuries didn't let us get all the usage we could have gotten
And Bush was probably the best pick out of all of those but he didn't match his #2 pick status

SO what do you guys think? What has kept us from drafting play makers with early picks and do you think this year it all changes?

Write your comments to let us know what you think

Will Smith has amply repaid the #18 pick we used. Meachem did a fair job justifying the #27. Brown justified his pick Jordan looks on his way to doing so. Bush maybe didnt live up to #2 billing but he did well. Robinson and Jenkins are looking sketchy at the moment. Ellis is going to end up having been sketchy for #7. But only Sullivan is a bust.

I'd say we're batting a little over average in the first.

we seem to always take the guy slotted to us by many mocks and follow what others are saying as bpa.

our scouts need to be better. we need to make bold picks

we have too many safe guys in there, guys who don't have much upside

ellis, short and considered nfl ready but there was no greatness being thrown around his name

Jenkins, same, big cb may have to play safety, safe nfl ready

Robinson, fast big school, no real great upside

Ingram, great school, college prodcution, short, not big, not fast, where's teh upside

ONly Meachem, Bush, and Cam Jordan were upside picks. Granted Meachem didn't fully develop but was solid, Bush was spectacular at times but injry prone and pedestrian otherwise, and Jordan looks like a gem with high ceiling

Still we got our best production out of our upside guys, even if they didn't all become great or pro bowl. You have to go for upside and frick college production in a way. this is whole new ball game and htis is about projection not production.

except for Jordan & Smith that is bunch of crap

Reggie Bush was not crap. He performed exactly how SP utilized him.
Almost 7,000 all purpose yds, 50 TDs, scored at least 8 TDs in 4 different seasons, and had to split the RB load here along with injuries. I'd say that Reggie has done quite well in his career so far.

Patrick Robinson was a total upside pick. He had elite potential with his size and athleticism. It's why I'm still modestly hopeful.

Hopefully this is the season he kicks it up and shows he can be a corner that doesn't get owned.
Remember the Cowboys game? Man, Bryant made him his b*t*h!!!

Here's how I see it (career and/or future potential along with draft position considered):

2011 24 Cameron Jordan too early, but looks good
2011 28 Mark Ingram too early, but has promise
2010 32 Patrick Robinson jury is still out, shows flashes
2009 14 Malcolm Jenkins has flashed things, but not as promising as he was
2008 7 Sedrick Ellis not a complete bust, but a huge disappointment 3/10
2007 27 Robert Meachem slight disappointment 5.5/10
2006 2 Reggie Bush good, but not great 7/10
2005 13 Jammal Brown had some very solid years 8/10
2004 18 Will Smith some very solid years despite many peoples' current hate 8/10
2003 6 Johnathan Sullivan complete bust 0/10

Sullivan - our only bust.
Ellis - I wanted him to be great...underwhelming (not a bust)
Bush - hate is exactly that...not #2 worthy but not a bust (personally glad we upgraded to Sproles)
Jordan - when all said and done will be a Saint stud
Ingram - Solid, within the limits set-up by our system (worth reaching for? jury still out)
Robinson - Meh, still too soon
Jenkins - Flashes of greatness; new system should play to his strengths
Meachem - Solid; not stud
Brown - Solid; injuries limited his rise
Smith - More than justified his pick; currently overpaid/aging

Patrick Robinson is NOT going to develop into a great corner. You guys are using the "P" word with a player who is going into his fourth season. If he hasn't developed by now, then he isn't going to.

It's so funny to hear what people actually consider a bust

It's also funny when people acknowledge that Sullivan was a bust, but then group guys like Ellis in there with him....do u really not see the difference?

Meachem was the closest thing to a bust aside from Sullivan because he really only contributed 1 good year and has since dropped off to a nobody in San Diego...yet fans give him a pass

Why does meachem get a pass for his career that never panned out but guys like Ellis, Jenkins, Ingram, etc who have contributed since day 1 don't get a pass?

Meachem caught 700+, 600+, 600+ for us as an important part of our passing game. He was a lte first rounder. He repaid us for the pick.

Absolutely...he rates as a Solid performer. Not a superstar but worth his draft spot. Dependable contributor.

Even Smith is a disappointment, since we could have gotten Wilfork there.

Lol, hindsight being 20/20...but Smith has performed well for this organization. He was a good pick. Currently he is paid for his past performance and not recent output.

Not at all, Wilfork was clearly the better pick at the time of the 2004 draft. The Patriots sprinted to the ballot box overjoyed and in disbelief, over my yells of outrage. Smith was a solid starter, but no more helpful than Ellis in winning the SB, and less helpful than Meachem.

This was the same brain-trust that traded up for Sullivan in the previous year. That did not take hindsight to blame either.

The Ingram pick is the one that will go down as "should have known better" with hindsight.
