Hey friends, maybe one of you have some insight into this.

I've been divorced since 2007. My son is 18 years old, but doesn't want to come see me anymore. Sucks, yeah, right, I know. I don't have any employment anymore. He is "supposed" to graduate from high school in 3 months. Being unemployed, and having no right to him, since he is of "legal age or majority", and being unemployed myself, I really don't see why I should have to pay child support for an adult that doesn't want to come see me and obviously his mother makes a lot more money than I do.

How can I continue paying for an adult that doesn't want to see me, I have no money, and his mother makes more than I do? He will be 19 and graduated in June.

Boy I need some legal help and have no money. I'm paying for the lights and some food, that's it.

What does your divorce and custody agreement say about paying child support? There should be some provision for when it stops, or for what you have to do to make it stop.

I would call your lawyer if you still have one, or contact a family lawyer, to find out what your rights and obligations are.

From what I understand if the courts say you pay regardless of age then you must pay. Here's the tricky thing though. In your case it's a little different. But if you didn't care to see him and wanted no part of his life, then you don't have to pay. There's a form you can fill out and it dismisses you from having to pay. Because if you're paying you are entitled to visitation. But he doesn't want to see you. That's fine. He or his mom don't need your money. Yes some will say its your kid and he's entitled to it and its morally right to give. But giving something to someone who doesn't care about you is not morally right if be takes it no? I'm pretty sure if you dig you can find the form with a lawyer or maybe the state can help you? Good luck

The above is correct advice.

Most child support stops when the child reaches 18, however, there could be a provision that if he is still in high school you have to continue to pay. Check with your attorney.

This is incorrect.

It is a bit late to waive your parental rights.

There are pro bono law clinics you can use if money is an issue but please check with a family lawyer and find your divorce/custody paperwork before stopping any payment.

If you want a relationship in the future with your son then pay the 3 months. You don't want him to think money was more important than him. If you don't then read the support enforcement papers it should be in there.

This is why men should no longer marry in this misandric culture, resist the system, refuse marriage at all cost. There is no point of marriage under these horrible laws, you're basically enslaved and you didn't even have a say in it. You can be jailed for not paying child support should your ex-wife pursue her legal options. You have my sympathy, I hope someone has some ideas, I hate seeing things like this happen to men and families.

This video sums up why men need to reject marriage at all costs in the west.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of marriage either. But since when does one have to have been married to have a child support obligation?

This.

Tough pill to swallow but very true and only 3 months. I paid for YEARS to a mother that spent it on beer and cigs while convincing my son I was essentially worthless. But I kept on paying and my son (now 21) told me not long ago he now sees what all occuured and that one thing for sure is that I always did what I said I did. He still lives in NC, in school and with me in summers but when the honey pot ran out at 18 for his mother she scooted back to MS and married her boyfriends brother... n/k...

So OP this is your son and alwasy will be. Times will be better one day so I say pay and then try and keep that relationship going. This assumes of course it is important to you to continue that.

I would hardly call expecting a father to help support his child "greedy."

And it has nothing to do with marriage and everything to do with "parental obligation."

Don't want to pay to support a child? Wrap it up or keep it in your pants. Period.

Yeah, because paying 100% of your income is fair.

Who said that?

Anyone?

Bueller? Bueller???

Did you watch the video? He said he had to pay 100% of his after tax income within the first 2 minutes of the video.

Now, all we have is his side of the story, but if this is even close to being true, that is grossly unfair and to state any differently feeds into the notion that women are illogical when it comes to divorce.

And since when is it solely the man's responsibility for birth control?

Well, the video is on the internet, so it must be 100% true.

Women do not make final decisions in divorces or custody decrees, judges do.

If circumstances change, there are procedures in place to have the agreements changed. Following them is a good idea, rather than deciding to stop payment of child support because the kid doesn't want to come visit.

The person who does not wish to have a child has the responsibility.

If YOU don't want a pregnancy, then YOU have a responsibility to prevent one.

And the guy in the video was paying ALIMONY as well as child support. This thread is not about alimony, it is about paying child support. His child support was not 100% of his after tax income.

SO your "greedy women" theory has nothing to do with this situation. Sorry. Maybe "greedy children?"
