n/s Da'Quan Bowers arrested on gun charge (1 Viewer)

What's the deal with NFL players and guns.....?

Do they not give them instructions on when and where they can carry them....?

Rule #1, Do not carry them in an airport...
Rule #2, Do not carry them in an establishment that serves alcohol....
Rule #3, if you do not understand said rules, you should not be carrying a gun...

Why does an NFL player feel the need to carry a gun at a ******* airport? It's so frustrating. These people are millionaires, and they're in a public place with some of the most security in the United States. Leave your past behind, good Lord.

Idiot.

Goodell will brush this off along with the rest of the 100 DWIs this season.

I'm guessing it had more to do with where he was coming from or going to than safety at the airport.

Still an idiot

You just have to wonder about some people. At what point as he was packing his carry-on did he think, "Hey, they'll let this slide." They don't even let a bottle of shampoo through security if it's more than whatever number of ounces they allow OR not in a see-through baggie. Maybe he should have at first insisted on keeping his shoes on to check out how serious they are about that stuff. And in New York, of all places! The state/city with the most stringent gun laws on the east coast, if not in the country. Did he not hear about Plaxico Burress? Did he think he was arrested--and served time--ONLY because the gun went off?

What a moron! I can hear him now: "Hey, the safety was ON!"

RT ‏@MikeGarafolo Just looked up to double check my suspicion on this and it's confirmed: Bowers' charge is the same as Plax's

So he could be looking at a year in jail or more?

So he told the bag checker about it prior to security. Whats the big deal? They couldnt tell him u cant enter with a gun?

I would assume the same thing, but carrying a loaded gun on your person through an airport? If you're going back home to a neighborhood THAT bad, get a concealed carry permit and stow away the weapon in your bag, then remove it when you land. It's not that freaking complicated. These guys are senseless.

Are you saying what I think you are? That this is no big deal? It's a felony, no matter if he said something or not. They would have discovered it when they x-rayed it whether or not he told them. His intent means zilch.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da'Quan Bowers was arrested after a loaded .40-caliber gun was discovered in his bag at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Monday morning, Meris Campbell, a spokeswoman for the Queens District Attorney's office, confirmed.

Campbell said Bowers will be charged on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon on the second degree — the same charges levied against former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress in 2008. The charges carry a minimum sentence of 3½ years in prison.

Burress, whose gun accidentally discharged in a Manhattan night club, later accepted a plea deal to a lesser charge (attempted criminal possession of a weapon) and served 20 months in prison.

Bowers, a hot prospect coming out of Clemson who fell to the second round of the 2011 NFL draft because of concerns about his knee, was waiting to be arraigned and will have a hearing this evening, Campbell said.

According to Campbell, Bowers did not try to go through security with his Smith & Wesson firearm. When he got to the check-in counter, he told airline employees he had a gun in his bag, Campbell said. She did not have any information on Bowers' reasoning for having the gun in his bag.

Bowers, 22, began this past season on the physically-unable-to-perform list after tearing his Achilles' tendon in May. He was activated in October, played in 10 games and recorded three sacks.

The Buccaneers released a statement reading: "We are aware of the situation and are gathering information. We will withhold comment until we know all the facts."

The NFL will also review the matter.

Could be very bad if he's made example of the way Plax was.

Bc most are from bad neighborhoods that idolize the "gangsta" mindset and lifestyle that is very prevalent in most of their music of choice - rap/hip hop. I love rap/hip hop but I don't ever try to immulate the actions that NWA(for example) raps about. As a black man, I thinks it's the #1 think currently holding back my race. Most think jail isn't a big deal, infact in a lot of poor, urban, black communities it's almost a rite of passage to have been locked up.
