It looks like all three of these players will have their contracts restructured in the next few days, so potentially how much will we save in cap space if they do?

And will Bunkley and Grubbs be restructured as well?

Smith restructured last year and transitioned base salary for more bonus money, didn't know you could restructure back to back years. Vilma is going into a contract year.

Everyone keeps mentioning this but i haven't gotten a clearcut answer.

It appears as though u can restructure as many times as they feel its necessary...someone with a definite?

Vilma is in his last year so there's nothing to restructure. I assume they mean renegotiate with and added contract extension?

Thats my assumption all 3 will get extensions.

I think at the end of the day Vilma & Smith get cut and Harper may eventually depending on what happens in the draft

Pretty much the exact same thing Brady did. We will had 1-2 years to each's contract so that we can evenly distribute their money therefore lowering their cap hit. The question is are the saints willing to keep smith or vilma around beyond this upcoming season.

I think so too. There is nothing wrong with negotiating their salary way down and then letting them try and make the team. If they are the best we have, so be it. If not, they are gone. I would be surprised to see more than one still around in Sep. but we shall see.

I really think all 3 should be let go at this point. They may provide "veteran leadership" but that doesnt say much when you're the leaders of a defense hat has collapsed two times in the playoffs and has now managed to become the worst defense in NFL history.

I think its time we looked to the few bright spots (Lofton, Jordan, Bunkley and Hicks) from this past season and place them as the new leaders of the defense.

It is time fo a change.

They can potentially save a bundle on Smith and Vilma. If Harper were released outright, it would save only $1 million in cap, so I have always known they would restructure with him because they can save more in cap that way and have a backup capable of rushing the passer, a role he excelled in with GW in 2011.

And it's not what they are paid per year on the contract that matters--unless Loomis loses his mind and gives them fully guaranteed contracts. What matters is what they will cost on the cap. They could have base salaries of $15 million a year after this year; that doesn't mean they will make that.
