Salary Cap set at $123 million (1 Viewer)

I think we're $6.5 million over, without anything happening with Vilma, Smith, Harper, Herring.

Last I heard, assuming the cap was at $123 mil, we were about $2.2 over. I'll try to find a link.

EDIT: Yeah, it's $2.4 million over at a $123 cap.

It's actually better for the #Saints. With Colston added (forgot to put that in the spreadsheet), it would be only $4.4 over at $121.1 mil

I think all of these guys will get restructured as well as Drew (pure speculation on my part) and we go into free agency with a healthy amount of $$ to throw at some good players.

I don't think Drew will be restructured at this point.

The best thing to do is to try and eat up as much of his salary the next two years and restructure/extend ala Brady in 2015. Restructuring Drew is a last ditch move.

Yeah that will probably be the plan.

Edited my above post, but it's $2.4 million over at a $123 cap.

I predict 22 million below cap before free agency. but if I'm right, some of the moves you might not like.

I think he's assuming there will be moves on Harper in addition to Smith & Vilma?

Will Smith pay cut
Vilma pay cut
Harper extension
Jenkins cut
Pierre Thomas cut/trade
Will Herring cut

That gets us anywhere from $12 - 16 mil depending on how they do it. That's pretty much all the low hanging fruit. Past that you're talking nickels, not dollars, unless Drew restructures his deal, which would have serious consequences in the future.

Won't happen.

Didn't say it would, but I just ran the figures on the things we COULD do to maximize cap space, and that's as good as we can get. Cut/trade Zach Strief is another $2 million as well. Past that listed above + Strief, there's nothing else out there.

I don't see a path to $22 million, short of messing with Brees' deal.
