Bump this thread every time you go to nola.com and it's still a terribly designed piece of work (1 Viewer)

Looking for New Orleans related news on an unimportant topic, I accidentally typed nola.com into my browser's URL bar and hit enter a few minutes ago. I say accidentally because I almost immediately stopped going there when the horrible new layout was introduced last year.

Well, it's still as bad as I remember it.

Huge menus that block what I was reading when I accidentally mouse over them? Check.

Advertisements that grow and shrink randomly, causing the page to jump around while you are trying to read or scroll down? Check.

No more than four visible headlines in the 900 vertical pixels that make up the first page of the site on my screen (two articles, if the current Hornets ad decides to slide open)? Check.

Completely unorganized news "feeds" on that make it impossible to separate good TP articles from two sentence posts that belong on Twitter? Check.

Editing mistakes that make me wonder if they are too cheap to even hire a high school intern to proofread articles, ahem, blog posts before they released to the public? Check.

News articles that have so little information that you have to assume the Google page rank is more important than actually delivering information to the reader? Check.

I feel bad for everyone who has ever worked for the TP as well as New Orleans as a whole, who has to watch it's long standing paper die it's inevitable death while the Newhouse family makes a ton of cash purposely running it into the ground.

So bump this thread every time you go to nola.com and the website is still a horribly designed mess that makes you want to claw your eyes out.

since they stopped the daily paper and let go of the good staff i stopped visiting.

I'm guessing this thread hasn't been bumped more often because a lot of people have just stopped clicking. But I followed a link there the other day, and yeah, I hate it.

Nola.com freezes my computer every time I go. I have an i7, 8GB RAM laptop.

I've seen high school students put together a better program than nola.com. The T.P. has gone downhill.

It is pretty bad but at least it shows if there are any comments and how many comments. The Daily Advertiser's site, you have to click on the article and then click on the comments link just to find out there are not even any comments.

It gets their click count up though.

You actually read the comments(nola.com) from those knuckleheads?

That you read the comments says a lot about you. :)

I don't understand how someone could fine comments on news articles to be any sort of selling point. I avoid them at all costs. Nothing of value has ever been written in a news site comment section, nothing of value ever will.

There are often comments that provide more information than the actual article. For example when that 18 year old guy shot at three STM kids and killed one of them. Many of the posters either knew the three kids or the shooter and had info about the situation.

Another example was when the BP rig caught fire. There were a lot of experts that work in the oilfield that provided a ton of valuable information and explanations.

there is 20x more junk in the comments section of just about any website than there is helpful information.. this is especially true with nola.com commenters, who seem to take pride in their ignorance.

and in re. to the OP-- i actually wouldnt have had an issue with the reduction of the daily TP, or even eliminating the physical paper altogether-- *if* the website (nola.com) had been great... however, as we all know, the opposite is true.. i just cant logically understand, from a business perspective, or from any other perspective, what in the world they were thinking .. like other posters have mentioned, the site is almost impossible to read and enjoy, and yeah it freezes up my computer too.. if their goal was to make money, i have to assume theyre failing miserably.
